UWIC
MATCH PREVIEW |
|
This
is the first league meeting between the sides since
1st September 2000, and another repeat of the score line
that day would suit everyone at the club, Lido ran out
1-0 winners on the day with an O'Leary goal scored in
the 75'. In fact it was UWIC's last season in the top
flight they finished bottom of the LOW amassing just
13 points from their 34 games. It should be a close
game with the teams lying 3rd and fourth in the table and both
teams need a win to keep on the tails of Neath and Goytre,
in fact all top 4 sides in the league have applied for
promotion to the Welsh premier, so a home win is vital
to keep the clubs hope of promotion alive and a swift
return to the top. However we have a very tough run in
with 16 league games to play 11 are away from home
leaving just 5 home games left.
The
team that last played UWIC on 1st September 2000 was
Thomas,
Pitman, Parry, N.Jones, Williams, Rickard, Patton,
Evans, Pearson, O'Leary, Hurley.
Subs: Scott, Taylor, L.Jones

DOGS NEATH COME UN-STUCK |
|
Newport
YMCA did all the teams hot on the trail of runaway
leaders Neath a favour. YM travelled to Llandarcy park
and gave them all a bit more hope of catching Neath
when they pulled off a shock 1-0 away win. It also
relieved Ym's relegation worries by moving them up
another two places in the league. The victory will
seem like justice to YM who almost took 3 points off
Neath in their encounter earlier in the season, when
Neath just scrapped home a point equalising in the 94'
when they visited Mendalgief road.

Afan
Lido's match with Marston's |
| Afan Lido
have ended a difficult year on a positive note by
securing a three-year sponsorship deal with Marston's.
The brand, owned by
Wolverhampton and Dudley Brewery, will sponsor the club
and the stadium which will now be known as The Marston's
Stadium.
There is also an option
to extend the deal after the third year.
A turbulent year at the
club has seen relegation from the Welsh Premiership, the
resignation of chairman Sean McCreesh and a poor start
to life in division one.
However as 2005 draws
to a close, the deal marks a turnaround in club fortunes
on and off the pitch and puts an end to speculation
about Lido's financial position.
With the team currently
occupying fifth place in division one, first team
manager Mark Robinson welcomed the deal.
He said: 'The
sponsorship deal shows that Afan Lido is still making
great strides, and we hope that this will provide a
basis upon which we can build for future success.'
Richard Hughes, area
manager for WDB Brands, said: 'We are delighted to be
associated and involved with Afan Lido AFC, as we
believe that this is a club which serves the community.'
