Depleted side lose to YMCA

Yet another Lido team today affected by the clubs long injury list, the reserves lost 1-0 at Maesteg, losing some players who had to move up to the first team squad, though they still reamain top of the table, it looks only a matter of time before they are knocked of that place by by both Neath and Goytre Utd.

Neath are Goytre are only 4 points adrift but with a huge 6 games in hand, Goytre Utd are also just 4 point below with 5 games in hand, but teams below those 2 are well behind on points.

Depleted side lose to YMCA

Lido lost at home to Newport YM today at the Marston's,  and drop a place in the table as Barry Town's 2-1 win at Briton Ferry put them a point ahead.

The first team needed to call on reserve team players in order to field a complete squad, due to a long injury list.

News on the game as I receive it.

FEB-25

3rds game called off

Lido's 3rd team game was called off today due a player drain, caused by the first team having to draft in reserve team players, and the reserves calling on Gary Griffiths and Kieran Piper to their squad.

Michael Holmes was pleased with both players performances that he has said they can remain with the reserve team squad, well done to both players on their move up, but bad luck to the 3rds who will be losing their services.

3 get green light for promotion to WPL

MACRON Welsh League title chasers Neath Athletic, Goytre and ourselves have all been given the green light to make the jump to the Welsh Premier

FAW inspectors have passed our ground acceptable while the other two have to make small improvements. Bridgend and UWIC have withdrawn their applications. Goytre, who have games in hand on leaders Neath, face a tough clash with Bridgend - the last team to beat them.

Read the match reports on the Cwmbran win

Our under 21 team travelled to Cwmbran in a top of the table clash, and a Liam McCreesh goal separated the sides and now puts Lido in pole position at the top of the table, lying just one off leaders Cwmbran but with a game in hand.

Below are two match reports sent in by the club, I have added both as I think is interesting to get two views of the same match from the same club, triffik to be getting such a great response from the club, my thanks to both Phil Holmes and Alan Howells for tonight's reports and to all who have supported the clubs website so far.
Tony.

Under 16's win cup game

Our under 16 side took part in the BGCW cup game last night against Morriston and they won by 2-1, Casey Thomas scores a late winner for under 16's in a very close and exciting game.

Morriston scored in the first 2 minutes of the game. A lead they held until Remi Whitlock equalised midway through the second half. This set a nail biting finish and with the game looking as if it was heading for extra
time, Casey Thomas chased a through ball and calmly slotted past the Morriston goalkeeper.

A BAD WEEKEND FOR THE LIDO TEAMS

The first 4 teams of the club all suffered defeats over the weekend.
our first's were beaten by the inconsistent Llwydcoed 2-1, Christopher Vardon and Matthew Phillips scoring for the
Llwydcoed while Ian Jones was on target for Lido his league tally now up to 9. While 3 of the 4 teams above us in the league all won increasing the points gap to an almost impossible target to achieve a top 2 position.
The Reserves were away to Cwmamman and lost their game 2-0
The 3rd team were in cup action and were level after 90 mins, but lost 5-3 after extra time.
Today our under 19 side travelled west to play Haverfordwest in the 3rd round of the MacWhirter youth cup, they struggled to put a team together and they ended up on a 9-2 hammering.
The much awaited clash of the Afan Lido Blues v Afan Lido reds was called off.
I have no info as yet on our other under age sides, but will post them when received.

FEB-09

Who to shout for?

I face something of a dilemma tonight as to who to shout for, as the U19's take on west Wales Haverfordwest U19's at home. And as some are aware I also run the official Haverfordwest county website. The game kicks off at 7:pm. So the safest thing to do and not to offend either side, on this website I will shout for Lido and on the H'west site I will shout for them, but a draw is of no use for either side as both teams are on 13 points, and 8 points of leaders West End. So c'mon the Lido.

Lido teams round up

Under 19

West End got their revenge for the 2-0 defeat they suffered to the Lido U19, with a 4-1 victory yesterday. West End's victory see's them top the Youth west division on 21 points, despite the fact they were already deducted a point by the league (not sure for what reason)  Our lads drop one place to 7th following Goytre's 2-0 win over Port Talbot on Wednesday.

Under 16

The only result available in the Planguard Port Talbot & District Junior League saw the under 16's Red teams closest rival for the title Trefelin BGC easily beat Port Talbot with a 4-0 away win. Trefelin now have a 9 game unbeaten campaign and lie just 3 points behind the Red's the teams have yet to meet following the postponed game on the 7th of January and is a much anticipated clash.

Under 9

Our under 9 teams had a mixed weekend, which saw the Blue's team lose away to Corus Steel Jnrs 2-1, our scorer was Harri Thomas. While the Red's ran out 1-0 winners away to local team Port Talbot 1-0 with young Jordan Lloyd getting the all important goal.

The team for the Red's was
Aaron Davies (Goalkeeper), Jared Price, Charlie Purchase, Jordan Lloyd, Matthew Morgan, Jay Larkman, Jordan Noakes, Liam Evans & Regan Brown.

Reserves

The reserves had a high scoring game when they travelled Llwydcoed and came away 5-2 winners.
goals from Craig Martin, Sean Millon, Alistair Walkley, Daniel Williams and young Cory Thomas who was making his senior debut.
The win see's the reserves maintain their 4 point lead over Neath who ran out 12-0 winners over Portcawl Town.

FEB-04

Lido lose to Taffs

For the 2nd home game in a row, we came out 1-0 losers, and a serious dent in any hope of catching Neath, the defeat could have been worse for the team but none of the other side's above or close below managed a win (Neath the exception) Maesteg and Pontardawe drew their games while UWIC lost to Neath. View latest table No other results in at this time.
