Rangers & Colts match reports

Afan Lido Under 14 Colts back with a win (Jan 29) 18:30

On Saturday 23rd January the Under 14's Colts finally got back into action against Baglan B, after their last game on 12th December. It also showed in the way both teams played for the first quarter, as neither team really got going.

Eventually Lido got the goal they needed to settle them down.  It was closely followed by a second to leave the Colts 2 - 0 up at half time.  The second half proved a more comfortable affair with Baglan being limited to breakaways rather than sustained pressure. A further 2 goals mid way through the 2nd half closed the game out and the Colts ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.

Another break as their scheduled opponents this week, Cynffig, are in the Tesco Cup competition. Good luck to them and now we look forward to meeting Porthcawl White on the 6th Feb, the first time we have played them this season.

Afan Lido Under 14 Colts win one and lose one (Dec 9) 17:30

2 Games played recently, the first on Nov 28th against the older Porthcawl Orange, one of a few games to survive the bad weather.

We went 3 goals behind through some very sloppy defending in the first half before pulling one back just before half time. This signaled a turnaround in the game which saw the younger Colts play the better football in the 2nd half. They Colts scored a further 2 goals and only 2 quick breakaway goals by Porthcawl took the game away from them.  Excellent performance again against older opposition.

5th Dec saw the Colts play Goytre Utd.

After a poor first half they found themselves only a couple of goals up even though they dominated most of the play.  A much improved 2nd half saw them pull away recording an 8 nil win in the end.

Very close hard fought game. Took the lead and led 1 nil at half time. We then let in 2 quick goals but equalised with 5 minutes to go and scored the winner with the last kick of the game.
November 21st
Afan Lido Colts 0-7 Port Talbot Blue
After a 3 week break our next game was against the older Port Talbot side.  Even though we lost by this margin it in no way reflects how well the boys played, the Port Talbot manager admitted we were the best under 13 side they had played so far this season.  Excellent performance against older boys again

Afan Lido Rangers 5-0 Porthcawl Athletic Orange

Lido started strongly with some of the best passing this season. Our first goal came from a superb pass from Luke Keogh, paving the way for Sam Tucker to put an inch perfect cross for Calvin Wellington to slot in the back of the net.

It wasn't long before Calvin pulled the trigger again to make it two goals up. Lido's third goal came from some lovely quick passing with Jordan Harris
finishing it off.
Porthcawl started the second half well putting pressure on the Lido defence resulting in a shot being punched off the goal line by our stand in goal keeper
Conor O Callaghan.

Lido then stepped it up a gear with Joshua Evans and Jordan Doyle popping two more goals in the back of the net to finish five goals to nil.
This was Lido Rangers best performance this season, well done boys.

Goal Scorers: Calvin Wellington 2, Joshua Evans 1, Jordan Harris 1, Jordan Doyle 1.

Port Talbot Town 0-3 Afan Lido Rangers

This was going to be a close affair with the top two sides coming head to head. At first both sides were finding it hard to break through the opposing defences. But Lido managed to come the closest to opening the scoring but poor finishing let them down. So the half ended with no score. Afan Lido started the second half much stronger with some fine inter passing between Jordan Harris and Calvin Wellington resulting in a cool finish by Wellington in the bottom corner. It wasn't long before lido was two up with some fine football from the backs which saw Harris finding Wellington who finished with great composure. Port Talbot was still not out of the game but for some solid defending by Calum Beynon and Connor Prosser and also some superb saves by Jack Dacey, our stand in keeper. Lido finished strongly with a a great solo effort from our midfield terrier Jordan Doyle which finally sealed the game 3 - 0 to maintain our position at the top of the League. An excellent result, well done boys.

Afan Lido Colts 1-2 Baglan A

After a miserable performance against Cynffig the week before the lads had another difficult game against the older Baglan team. They started well and put Baglan under pressure whilst coping well with whatever Baglan threw at them. Baglan took the lead through some poor defending by Lido. The older boys made it 2-0 just before half time when Lido failed to deal with a corner. The 2nd half started much in the same way as the first but with a more determined approach the Lido team started to gain the upper hand but could not put away several chances. Eventually they scored with 5 minutes remaining but could not force home an equaliser Baglan running out 2-1 winners. The Baglan coach praised the young Lido team admitting they didn't deserve to lose.

Cynffig 5-0 Afan Lido Colts (Cup)

Afan Lido Colts. After playing some of our best football, since moving to full size, against the Afan Lido Rangers in mid week expectations were high but we saved our worst performance since moving to full size for Saturday. Cynffig fully deserved their win playing the better football and taking their chances well. We had several chances of getting on the score sheet especially in the first half but were unable to convert them into goals. All in all a fair result and good luck to Cynffig in the next round.

After that the younger Port Talbot side, who were really trying hard, couldn't cope with the strength of the Lido team and the final result was 9 nil. The Lido scorers were:- Jordan Harris 2, Jordan Doyle 2, Jordan Lewis 2, Calvin Wellington 2, Conor Prosser 1.

Afan Lido Colts 0-7 Afan Lido Rangers

On the 30th September Afan Lido U14 Rangers played Afan Lido Colts in the league on the Lido field. This was our toughest game so far as the young Colts played some lovely football. Going into half time Lido Rangers were only one goal in front from a screamer of a free kick by Calvin Wellington. However second half our Rangers side picked up their game. With our new signing Jordan Lewis coming on at half time to get a hat-trick. Fair play to the Colts goalkeeper he pulled off some great saves. The end score was 7-0.
