The Reserves played their Round 1 Reserve Cup tie against Troedyrhiw at the Marston's Stadium, the game being switched from Troedyrhiw two weeks ago. We played with a strong wind at our backs and Jonathan Hood now free from suspension took advantage of it when he opened the scoring on 10 minutes scoring directly from a corner.
The nearest Troedyrhiw got to an equaliser was from a corner of their own but Gareth Couch punched the ball clear. We went two up on 32 minutes when Matt Beynon played Dan Thomas in and he scored with a right footed shot. Jonathan Hood made it 3-0 when he fired in a free kick from just outside the area. Corey Thomas made the game safe in the first couple of minutes in the second half when the keeper lost the ball and it was cleared to Corey thirty yards out. He shot low to the right of the keeper and just inside the post. We lost the ball in defence but the Troedyrhiw substitute shot into the side netting from a good position. A Matt Jones cross from the right eluded the keeper and almost crept in at the far post, Troedyrhiw cleared and Gareth Couch safely held a long range shot.
Their keeper made a good save to his right to deny Rory Healey a goal after a fine run through the middle. Just before full time We broke quickly from a Troedyrhiw corner and Matt Jones fed Matt Beynon who shot from 25 yards but their keeper again made a good save tipping the ball over for a corner.
