The under 18 completed their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Ely Rangers.

Darren Franks scored the goal that looked to have earned the team all 3 points, but Ely equalised in the 90th min.

The Under 18's are in action again Wednesday night, when they go in search of the double, when they play Porthcawl in the cup final at Bryntirion, the kick off is at 6:15.

The under 18 league champions had little trouble in seeing off our neighbours from just down the road, and in doing so completed the double over Port Talbot.

The final score at the GenQuip was 5-0, with Lido's goals coming from Ellis Harris (2), Remi Whitelock, Luke Borrelli and James McEvoy.

Under 18's move a step closer to the title

The under 18’s moved a step closer to the league title, without kicking a ball.

Their only challengers for the division, Ely Rangers, drew last night, at Maesteg Park , 1-1

In fact, at one point, it looked like being even better news – Maesteg took an 88th minute lead, but had a man sent off almost immediately and conceded an equaliser in the 3rd minute of added time.

Lido have 2 games left (Port Talbot & Ely, both away) and need a point to make sure of winning the title.

Under 9's Rangers end season on another high

Dylan Agar has certainly found his scoring boots lately, after 3 goals last week he put in a man of the match performance to add a further 5 to his tally which now stands at 17 for the season. Further goals from Liam Partridge 2, Kurtis Davies 2, Bradley "Bob" O'Brien with his first for the rangers from 15 yards, Ben the beast Staton & Elliot Lawrence. Jack at the back Tallamy was in total control as usual, Joel SPIKEY Elliott covered every blade of grass on the pitch as he's done all season long and despite the 11-0 nil score line Daniel the man Jenkins proved he's the best under 9 goalie in Wales with a few smart saves.

This completes the rangers league programme including games against Cardiff west Glamorgan development and Llanelli academy where we played 28 games scoring 221 for and conceding only 24, 6 of those conceded were against Cardiff (who we beat 5-1 pre season) which we lost 6-4 on the Astro turf in November which was our only defeat and Llanelli who we beat 6-0 & 5-3 there were 7 goals scored by by our colts and hotspurs teams against the rangers so the futures looking really bright for the lido with over 200 scored and only 8 goals concede against our league rivals all year. Providing we can keep all the players with us we'll be ok as Brandon, George and Jack, (Swansea) Thomas, Joel, Kurtis, Ben, Daniel, Elliot (Swansea & Cardiff) and Dylan (Cardiff) have already been spotted and have been asked to train with them over the last 18 months. With Bradley, Liam Partridge and Joseph Collins showing good form WE'RE LOOKING GOOD.

My thanks to Carl Elliott for all his hard work for the website during the season giving his boy's the best coverage possible, and never missed a game the whole season. C U next season Carl cheers.

Under 9's Rangers win again

A good 6-0 win up in Glyncorrwg with Dylan Agar getting his first hat-rick and Liam Partridge a cracking shot that was unstoppable. Elliot Lawrence got another 2 poachers goals with the motm award going to Kurtis Davies who worked tirelessly down the right wing.

We dominated the game from start to finish with Jack Tallamy, Bradley O'Brien and Ben Staton all comfortable on the ball at the back and Joel Elliott and Brandon Cooper dominating the midfield battle, while Dan the man Jenkins was so quiet in goals he was able to top up his tan on a beautifully spring Afan valley morning.

Under 9's Rangers top the 200 goals

We took an early lead against Cwmavon with a nice Brandon Cooper strike, within 5 mins it was 3-0 with Liam Partridge getting his first Rangers goal and Elliot Lawrence getting the Rangers 200th goal of the season. Cwm came back into the game but good saves from Daniel Jenkins kept them at bay. Joel Elliott then popped up with 2 goals 1 a nice header from Elliot's great cross. Ben Staton and Bradley O'Brien were solid at the back whereas wingers Kurtis Davies and Dylan Agar put in some great crosses. Dan and Jack Tallamy went up front for the last 10 mins and both scored. Joel just pipped Brandon for the man of the match award.

The Colts shared a 1-1 draw with Corus through a Ryan Samuel goal, Ryan Lovell had the Motm award with good performances from Sam Willington and Jackson Davies.

Hotspurs then played Corus and went down 2-0 despite a good performance from Motm Cameron Jervice and good work by Josh Gammond, Luke Martin and Danny Thomas.

Third game to be played was colts v hotspurs, tackles were flying in as though it were a Glaswegian derby, Matty Smith opened the scoring for the colts with Connor Roberts replying. Chances were then created at both ends with Marcus Smith and Callum Burgess going close for spurs and Mitchell Divetta and Joseph Collins for the colts. Iean Peake just pipped Joseph Camps for the Motm awards there were also good performances by Joshua Campfield, Brian Lovell,

Under 9's Rangers hold out for victory over Corus

Rangers stormed into a 3-0 lead in the first 10 mins against Corus with great strikes by Kurtis Davies 2 and Joel Elliott. For the next 2 periods there were chances at both ends but Dan the man Jenkins made some fine saves and there was good defending at the back from Jack at the back Tallamy and Ben the beast Staton.

Liam Partridge came in for his first game and did well as did Bradley O'Brien and Dylan Agar. While Elliot Lawrence took an injury early on.

Corus managed to pull 2 goals back one with the last kick of the game to make the scoreline closer than it should have been after a superb performance by the lads. Brandon Cooper won the Motm award after dominating midfield, where the game was won.

The Colts went down 10-1 to Porthcawl3 while the consistent hotspurs drew 0-0 with the other porthcawl2

Sunday saw the academy play Llanelli with call ups for Bradley O'Brien George Jones Liam Partridge and Joseph Collins who all played very well. Kurtis Davies and man of the match Ben Staton got 2 each with Elliot Lawrence 1. Daniel made some great saves, Joel went close with a few strikes, Jack was himself at the back. Final score 5-3

Under 9's Rangers lose their 100% record

A very close game between the rangers and Porthcawl 3 was won via a great team goal involving Brandon Cooper, Dylan Agar, Elliott Lawrence, Joel Elliott and finished by Thomas Hughes. At the other end Daniel Jenkins was kept busy and made several good saves, Jack Tallamy, Bradley O'Brien and Kurtis Davies played well. Ben Staton played his best game of the season and was just pipped for the man of the match award by Joel. Porthcawl did their bit to make the game very entertaining and would be slightly disappointed to come away 1-0 down but i think the battle and commitment the boys showed deserved the result at the end of the day. won 1-0
Carl Elliott

This was probably the colts best performance of the season in the last 30 minutes, with at least 5 players capable of winning the Man of the Match Award, which eventually went to Ryan Samuel for putting in a destructive performance in midfield, which Trefelin found hard to deal with. George Jones scored a fine goal which capped an excellent performance from himself, he also set-up goals for Jackson Davies, who had a candidate for own goal of the century, but that own goal actually spurred him into action, to score 3 fine goals at the right end. There was also fine performances from Adam Williams, Matthew Smith, Sam Willington and Joseph Collins who capped his fine performance with a Goal. won 5-3
Neil Jones

Well done to Owain Gullam getting his first MOM award against a resilient Porthcawl 2 team. Owain was tireless in a midfield which threatened to over run Porthcawl with Owain, Connor E, Danny, Marcus and Ryan coming close to scoring. After a period of sustained pressure Liam P slid a great effort home to give Lido the lead however Porthcawl did come back with a period of pressure of their own which cumulated in a goal. Connor R scored the winner with almost the last kick of the game with another entry into the goal of the year competition. After a goal kick that landed at his feet Connor steadied himself and let rip from 20 yards. the keeper had no chance. Mention must go to Bryan who made an excellent save to keep the lead early on whilst Marcus and Josh G also did a great job filling in for Josh Campfield, (Get well soon Josh).
Well done again boys, not sure I approve of the chants "your not as good as our Rangers" but well done any way... won 2-1

Under 9's Rangers lose their 100% record

The rangers lost their 100% record after a superb performance from the hotspurs earned them a draw. Elliot Lawrence and Joel Elliott put the rangers 2-0 up but great saves by man of the match Joshua Campfield prevented further goals. A controversially allowed goal by Danny Thomas brought the hotspurs back into the match and from then on it was all spurs. Connor Roberts grabbed a deserved equaliser in the last 1/4 and the rangers just managed to hold on for a draw. The smug grin on watching colts coach Neil Jones could be seen from the moon, while the chants from the hotspurs players when leaving the pitch were "have a piece of that fat man and can we play you every week". Well done to the hotspurs.

A fine performance from the Colts with Goals scored by Mitchell Divetta, Jackson Davies, George Jones, Adam Williams and a Double for the returning Emily Fisher who also managed to head the ball correctly for once. There was also a excellent performance from Joseph Poretti, Who just missed out on the Man of the Match Award to Matthew Smith, After he put in a excellent performance in defence and managing to chip in with 2 Goals.

Under 9's round up

Under 9's round up from Saturday and last week

22/2/09 Good result against Llanelli's academy with Elliot Lawrence back in the goals with 2, George Jones making his first start 2 Joel Elliott and Brandon Cooper also getting a goal each, Bradley O'Brien had a super game as did Jack at the back Tallamy, Ben Staton, Kurtis Davies and Thomas Hughes all went close to scoring but with out Dan The man of the match Jenkins in goals the game would have been closer .
Well done boys final score 6-0

21/2/09 Rangers v Porthcawl Great team performance from the rangers in Porthcawl, Brandon Cooper 3 Joel Elliott 2, Kurtis Davies 2 and Thomas Hughes in an 8-1 win. Jack Tallamy kept a tight ship at the back and Daniel Jenkins came out of goals to hit one against the bar, Elliot Lawrence battled on well with Emily Fisher winning header of the year award, Brandon just pipping Joel for the Motm award.

Colts v Cwmavon There was some fine football on display from the Colts, but were denied on numerous occasions by some fine shot stopping, from the Man of the Match the Cwmavon Keeper. There was also a strong performance from the Cwmavon Referee, Who allowed the Cwmavon players to play an aggressive game with no boundaries. This game was very exciting and there was some fine performances from Joseff Poretti, Bradley O'Brien, Ryan Samuel and a Colts MOM performance from Joseph Collins.

14/2/09 Rangers v Colts The only difference in a tight game was the finishing of the Rangers, with Elliot Lawrence Brandon Cooper and Joel Elliott all scoring 2 each with Thomas Hughes 1. For the Colts Bradley O'Brien and Mitchell Divetta scored. Sam Willington stood out for the colts and Ben Staton for the rangers.

Hotspurs v  Porthcawl Excellent game yesterday by the Hotspurs in Porthcawl.
A game which we should have scored 5 or 6 but were winners comfortably.
Excellent performances by All players just being edged by 2 mom performances by Ryan Lovell and Rogan.

Brilliant debut in goal for Josh Campfield who made a excellent full stretch save that would have been applauded in many premiership stadiums.
Liam Ryan Bowen and Ieuan were all rocks in defence and all passed out of defence superbly to allow the midfielders Owain and Josh Gammond to exploit the space they were creating for themselves by their non stop running.

Dylan Hughes scored a cracking goal in the 1st quarter and showed his worth by continually tracking back and supporting the rest of the team.
Another special mention goes to Danny who in only his second start has fitted in well and especially showed in the last 10 the determination that our boys are displaying as they develop into a very useful outfit.

Under 14 Colt's beat Corus to progress in cup

The plan between the two coaches was to postpone this fixture as Corus were without their regular coach Gerald, but the league demanded the fixture be fulfilled.
At 0-0 half time the Colts decided to step up the gears.
We went 1-0 up thro' Kane Devonald who casually slotted the ball passed the ensuing GK. 1-0.

But they regained all square not long after 1-1 after a quick corner caught the Colts cold.
With 3 minutes remaining ex Corus player Kyle Morgan followed up a shot which was saved by the GK
and neatly lobbed into the empty net from 20 yards out.
It was just a matter of running down the clock for the remaining 2 minutes.
The most important thing in a cup competition is being in the hat for the next round.

Having not played for so long over the Christmas period the players are now starting to regain their fitness and composure more and more each week.

Unfortunately, directly after Christmas we were involved in two potentially winnable Cup competitions in which we didn't do ourselves justice. In saying that I mustn't take nothing away from the opposition on both occasions and they thoroughly deserved their wins.

Under 9's Rangers win again

A very good game was some what spoiled by the extreme cold, blustery wind and heavy grizzling from certain "supporters" who seemed to know all the rules on football and was determined to let every one know that they did.

Back to the football the players played some great passing football with Kurtis Davies 2, Elliot Lawrence 1, Brandon Cooper1 and Joel Elliott 1 all scoring. Utility man Dylan Agar played in defence, up front and in goals and did well in all positions, Dan the man froze for 20 mins then came out of goals and did well, Emily went on a few mazy runs, Thomas went close a few times, Jack was solid at the back and Ben came away with the man of the match just pippin Brandon and Joel.

Match reports for 24/1/2009

A good spirited game between the Rangers and Colts where the only difference between the 2 sides was the finishing of the Rangers players. 4 goals from m.o.t.m Elliot Lawrence 2 by Thomas Hughes and 1 each for Joel Elliott, Jack Goal a game Tallamy and Dylan Agar cancelled out an early George Jones strike. Bradley O'Brien had the m.o.t.m. award for the colts with Joseph Poretti, Sam Willington and Adam Williams putting in good performances. Neil Jones again tried one of his back handed tricks by playing an extra player and not saying anything about it! The pleasing thing was there was no arguments between the players (only the coaches) and the football on show was good.

After last weeks win the Hotspurs came down to earth with a 4-1 reverse against Cwmavon,  Brian Lovell getting the goal and Iean Peake the M.O.T.M. award.

Another good win for the rangers with Elliot Lawrence bagging 4 goals Joel Elliott and Thomas Hughes 3 each, Jack goal a game Tallamy, Emily Fisher and man of the match Dylan Agar all getting 1.

Kurtis Davies was again the supply line for most of the goals with 3 headers being scored directly from his corners 1 each by Elliot, Thomas and Joel. Dan the man Jenkins kept another clean sheet and there were good performances from Ben Staton and Brandon Cooper. Final score 13-0

The colts travelled to play Porthcawl 1 and came away with a 1-0 victory scored with a cheeky back heel by Mitchell Diveta from a George Jones corner, Bradley O'Brien came away with yet another man of the match performance. Final score 1-0

The Spurs travelled to Croeserw and continued their impressive first season with a 4-1 victory to make it a clean sweep for the u9's. Callum Burgess, Rogan Heywood, Liam Partridge and man of the match Connor Roberts got the goals. Final score 4-1

Under 9's match reports
Friday night saw the rangers play Cardiff's west Glamorgan development team on a freezing night at the lido Astro turf, playing against a strong wind we found ourselves 4-0 down, we brought it back to 4-2 playing with the wind with 2 goals from Elliot Lawrence and then in the 3rd 1/4 we scored a great team goal finished neatly by Dylan Agar, the last 15 mins seen us attack all out to get the equaliser but Cardiff broke away twice before Joel Elliott's shot was deflected in at the end to make it 6-4. Brandon Cooper won the man of the match award, there were very good performances from Thomas Hughes, Ben Staton, Jack Tallamy, Kurtis Davies and goalie Dan the man Jenkins.

Straight back into it on Saturday morning against a feisty Glyncorrwg team who left our players knowing they had been in a physical match, despite this the boys and Emily came out on top with goals from Emily Fisher, Joel Elliott, Thomas Hughes, Brandon Cooper, Daniel Jenkins, Dylan Agar, and a goal set up for Jack Tallamy by Brandon which was the most un-selfish piece of play I've seen by an 8 year old.

Elliot Lawrence picked up the man of the match award and 2 goals, the only one not to score was Kurtis Davies who made at least 5 of the teams goals. 9-0.

Croeserw 2-4 Colts
The Colts played at nowhere near their full potential for 30 minutes, in this time Croeserw took a well deserved 2 goal lead, Croeserw could have scored further goals, but excellent defending from Bradley O'Brien and Man of the Match Sam Willington held Croeserw from further goals.

In the final 10 minutes the finally found their rhythm after a well struck double from Adam Williams, Goals followed from Jackson Davies and Joseph Collins.

The Colt's went goal crazy against Porthcawl 2nds today at Locks Lane and put away 10 goals without reply, there must have been a lot of singing on the way home, well done lads.

DEC 07

Under 9's Colts match report

The Rangers travelled to Cwmavon and continued their fine run with 8 of the 9 players getting on the scoresheet, Ben Staton hit the pick of the goals with a 20 yard lob, Kurtis Davies scored 1 and curled another in from distance whilst Dylan Agar and Emily Fisher scored after good individual runs, Jack Tallamy scored for the second week running, Daniel Jenkins came out of goals and scored, and the goal machines Elliot Lawrence and Thomas Hughes got 1 each, the only one not to score Joel Elliott walked away with the man of the match award. Final score 9-0.

Missing influential coach Neil "sick note" Jones and despite a battling performance the Colts went down 1-0 to Baglan.

3 goals from man of the match Connor Roberts didn't stop the Hotspurs going down 8-3 at Corus which is a good performance from the boys.

DEC 02

Under 14's Colts match report

Jordan Harris played in goal for the first time sat and had a stormer. we stood off them in the first half and they could have scored one or two more if it wasn't for Sam Glover and Jordan Doyle shoving their bodies in front of the ball.

We scored a fantastic 1st goal which involved Jordan Doyle, Jacob Flynn and a Super cross from Sam Tucker to Kane Devonald in the 6 yard box to volley home a perfect move any senior side would be proud of.

The second came within 5 mins of the 1st in which Kane beat the GK to the ball and slotted it passed the GK. everyone defended like Trojans and were well marshalled by Conor Prosser and Calum Beynon. Sam Tucker may have found a new role as a left back in which he has adapted perfectly - considering he's been playing RM for the last 5 years.

The PA coach commented on Jordan Doyle who again covered every blade of grass on the pitch. Jordan along with Luke Keogh are beginning to be a force to reckoned with in the Centre of midfield.

As a coach i am extremely proud of the boys and long may it continue. They deserve something out of this season, however small. Technically the boys are coping with all the sides and this season is a learning curve. Where we tnd to lose out is mostly to do with the physical side of the game.

The parents were proud as punch on Saturday. The pleasing thing was that every player was exhausted in the changing room after the game. when asked "did they enjoy it?" every single one said YES they would rather play in game like that every week.

Further goals were scored by Elliot Lawrence 3 Thomas Hughes 2, Emily Fisher, Brandon Cooper, Daniel Jenkins, Kurtis Davies and Joel Elliott. Ben Staton and Dylan Agar both had excellent games.

This week Colts played hotspurs and it ended up a great contest with the colts winning 8-5 with goals from Jackson Davies 4, George Jones 2, Matt Smith 2 colts goals came from Rogan Heywood, Liam Partridge, Luke Martin, Iean Peake and Connor Roberts.

U14 Colt's draw with Porthcawl

Porthcawl A 2-2 U14 Colts

The Colts travelled to Locks Lane to take on the league leaders, and came away with a point.

They were 1-0 down at half time, but gaffer Holmsey's half time talk paid off, and they were level 2 minutes into the 2nd half.

They went 2-1 up with Kane Devonald's 2nd of the game, it looked like we would take all 3 points but 4 minutes from the end Porthcawl got back on level terms to make it 2-2.

A terrific performance by the young under 13's team.

U9 Rangers make it a ton

U9 Rangers 2-1 Corus

The Rangers hit their 100th & 101st goals of the season in a great game against Corus and in the process gained their 10th win of the season.

Corus took the lead early in the 2nd period with a break away goal and some of our players heads dropped. In the 3rd period it was plain to see that we wanted to hold on to our unbeaten record and a fantastic run and cross down the left wing by Dylan Agar was volleyed into the roof of the net by Joel Elliott. The game was still evenly matched with Thomas Hughes, Elliot Lawrence, Emily Fisher and Brandon Cooper all having 1/2 chances. At the other end Daniel Jenkins made 3 good saves and Ben Staton and Jack Tallamy defended like lions.

In the final 10 mins you could see the players were well up for it and man of the match Joel hit a screamer that was heading for the top corner until the Corus keeper made a fantastic save, with minutes to go Kurtis Davies beat 2 defenders and fired superbly into the corner to win it for us

U14 Colt's lose to Rangers

U14 Colts 0-1 Rangers

It was a highly contested game as both sides didn't want to lose.
The Rangers were well on top for most of the first half and Foard Cooksley delivered some menacing crosses into the Colts Area. Fortunately for us nobody was on the end of them to convert into goals.

Jack Lewis dished out some strong challenges in the centre of  midfield along with his counterpart Sean Griffiths.
With the Rangers not having their regular GK in goal the colts parents thought it would be a formality as the Colts had been playing particularly well of late.

However, I don't think stand in GK Ben Thomas had a shot to save in the first half.
The all important game after 25mins. A FK was awarded on our left and it was swung into the box for Jack Underwood to produce a glancing header which guided passed Luke Armstrong in the Colts goal.

The second half was a totally different story, as the Colts realised that a result was possible due to the missed chances from the Rangers and had it not been for Ben Thomas in Goal could have got a draw from the game.

The colts had chance after chance with Sam Tucker, Jake Flynn Jordan Harris coming close.
In the second half the Rangers hardly had chances as our defence was well marshalled with Conor Prosser and Calum Beynon, who, incidentally created two spectacular tackles in the second half. Luke Keogh was on his game to shackle Foard Cooksley also.

On the whole, the Rangers could have won the game 8-0, but for missed chances they could have also
lost the game 3-1.

It was an entertaining game, and if this is the Future of the Afan Lido then I'm sure people like Phil Robinson can sleep at night knowing that the Future of Afan Lido is safe with the players coming through the Junior section. As for years the club has grown it's own players like a conveyor belt of Talent as well as Internationals.

U14 Colt's beat Cwmavon

Cwmavon 1-11 Colt's

On Saturday the Colts travelled to the Welfare to play Cwmavon.
It was a quiet first 20mins then the goal machine started to kick into gear.
The score ended up being 11-1. An ugly incident occurred in the second half which is best forgotten about
and is not necessary in Junior football. The ref handled the incident superbly and I'm sure the players will be reprimanded accordingly.

Talk of the game was when Luke Armstrong came out of goal in place of Jordan Harris and scored 2 goals.
The players were trying their utmost to get him his 3rd but to no avail.

Also topic of conversation was BIRTHDAY BOY JACOB FLYNN scoring a HAT-TRICK. His 13th birthday was the day before and he had a sleepover which was conveniently called a stay awake over as I heard through the grapevine that the boys who stayed there didn't get to sleep until 6am.

Scorers to follow.

Rangers continue unbeaten run with 1-0 win over Porthcawl 2 the game was a hard fought affair with both sides playing good stuff but the Rangers came away winners with a well worked goal from Harri Doran the pass from Jack Hurley was simply sublime and the finish was just as high quality turning two players and shooting into the bottom corner.

The colts did not have a game this week so they had a friendly arranged against Glynneath they held they're own and played some good football but in the end the colts lost 5-2 with Glynneath running out worthy winners a big thanks to them for making the effort to travel down to a very wet and window Darwin rd

A good weekend for the under 9's

Team of the week for the under 9's are the Hotspurs who gained 2 great results on Saturday beating Trefelin and our own colts team both 1 goal to nil, Rogan Heywood got both goals but as they all played well coach Richard Gullam found it hard to call m.o.t.m. so they all shared the award. Well done boys.

It wasn't all bad for the Colts as they then then beat Trefelin 3-1George Jones 2 Matt Smith 1 with George  and Adam Williams getting the Motm awards. The Rangers travelled to Porthcawl to play their strongest team and matches against Porthcawl are always really close, usually being won either way by the odd goal in 5. However it was plain to see the progression the Rangers have made this year as they comfortably won 8-0 with goals from man of the match Kurtis Davies 4, Elliot Lawrence 3 and a Brandon Cooper 20 yarder.

Great performances from defenders Ben Staton and Jack Tallamy and goalie Daniel Jenkins ensured a clean sheet with Joel Elliott and Dylan Agar putting in 100% covering every blade of grass. The Rangers now need 1 more for their 100th goal of the season.

The colts and Hotspurs were due to play each other at the Marston stadium last night but the fixture was called off and played today. It seems the Colts thought they were still playing last night as the Hotspurs stormed into a 2 goal lead with goals from Josh Gammon and Liam Partridge, it wasn't until late in the game that the colts came into it and 2 goals from Adam Williams, 1 each for Bradley O'Brien, Joseff Collins, Mitchell Diveta, and Matt Smith made it safe even though Liam Partridge and Connor Roberts scored again.

Final Score Colts 6 Hotspurs 4

A mad 5 minute spell saw Corus score 5 quick goals against the U9 Colts

Other than a mad 5 minute spell that saw a well organised Corus team score 5 quick goals both teams were evenly matched and the result did not do the colts justice.

The Colts did find the net twice, through Mitchell Divetta and Jackson Davies. There was a Man of the Match performance from the impressive Bradley O'Brien.

What a weekend both teams come up trumps against local rivals port Talbot with the colts drawing 1-1 with port Talbot athletic in a very entertaining game which port Talbot took the lead. which they held until the last ten minutes to go Travis O'Brien broke through to score a cracker which levelled the game.

Under 9's enjoy winning double over Margam

The Rangers and the Colts travelled to Margam and played matches against Margam A and B.

The Rangers started really brightly against Margam B and were soon a few goals up after some great passing football from Kurtis Davies, Joel Elliott, Thomas Hughes and Elliot Lawrence. Rangers playing with a player less were just too strong for the inexperienced Margam team who showed a great team spirit and battled to the final whistle.

Scorers for the 2 games
Thomas Hughes 5
Elliot Lawrence 3 Kurtis Davies  3 Joel Elliott 1

Man of the match award went to Kurtis Davies

Colts match report.

1st Game today
This was by far the colts best performance of the season, with some excellent counter attacking football played resulting in 2 fine breakaway goals from Jackson Davies, after some fine work by Adam Williams and Mitchell Divetta in setting up both chances. Margam played some fine football themselves and were only denied by the impressive Joseph Poretti in Goals, but could not keep out a well taken goal just before the break. The second half produced a fine goal from MOM George Jones and also Adam Williams finished neatly in a crowded penalty area.

2nd Game Today
The Colts start very slowly and were under pressure from the start, with Margam creating some great chances, but only managing to score one of them. This was when the Colts started to wake up and take the game to Margam with some fine all-round play by Joseph Collins who produced a MOM Performance which was capped with a fantastic finish to his one goal. The Colts were spurred on by a strong performance in the second half from Bradley O'Brien who scored a great goal, and further Goals followed from Emily Fisher and  Mitchell Divetta.

Under 14's all square against Corus

The 14's Colts drew 2-2 on Sat Morning, in a thrilling encounter away to Corus. We played some superb football from Start to Finish but didn't have that cutting edge when shooting.

Everything seemed to be around the GK grasp. Kane Devonald scored our 1st one to got 1-0 up only to go 2-1 down with minutes remaining. That didn't deter the boys and they kept believing they could get something.

Up popped Jordan Doyle to evade three challenges on the edge of the box and to slot it passed the GK 2-2. Every parent were proud as punch to witness an almighty performance.

Under 9's play each other in friendly

With the rangers travelling to Porthcawl and having the match called off due to no goal posts and the Hotspurs 11-30am fixture with Croeserw also being cancelled we took the opportunity for the boys to play each other. All the hard work put in by the lads during the summer months was starting to show as great football was showed by both teams.

Liam Partridge and Ryan Samuel were the pick of the Hotspurs team and Luke Martin, Callum Burgess, Owain Gullum and the two Connor's  Roberts and Evans all battled well, Dylan Hughes and Kieran Hendra both went close a few times and goalie Marcus Smith was in fine form.

As for the Rangers passing football was the name of the game with goals from Elliott Lawrence(3) Joel Elliott (2) Thomas Hughes and Dylan agar. New signing Brandon Cooper looks a good acquisition with Ben Staton, Jack Tallamy and goalie Dan Jenkins all performing well .   Final score 7-0  Elliot Lawrence 3, Joel Elliott 2, Thomas Hughes 1, Dylan Agar 1.

Afan Lido lose under 13's star to Cardiff City

JJ.JPG (24236 bytes) Some good news has reached the club today in the form of Joseph Jones has earned a 2 year contract with Cardiff City Academy.

This is JJ's 3rd time on trial and as they say 3rd time lucky.
Joseph will now be rubbing shoulders with the big guns of the Championship along with ex Lido boys Lewis Holmes and Luke Fleming.

He is due to sign tonight at a press conference at the Vale Hotel with Academy Manager Neil Ardley, Peter Ridsdale and 1st team Gaffer Dave Jones.

It will be a blow to lose JJ (who was 2006/07 Player of the Year) as he has been such an instrumental figure ever since we started junior football. To lose him to Cardiff City is a massive plus though.

It obviously goes to show that the Junior section are doing the right things in terms of Player Development and sides such as Cardiff City are recognising that major factor.

We wish JJ along with Luke and Lewis the very best of LUCK in the future and obviously hope they will set a little cash aside for the coach who started off their careers when they make it big time.

Ashley Cole with former Lido youngsters now with Cardiff City Academy.
