Afan Lido 5-0 Carmarthen Town
The under 19's win came at a
price as with the last move of the game Remi Whitelock was left
injured with what looked like a torn hamstring.
We had the better of the first
half but it took us until added on time in the first half to go
ahead. As early as the 7th minute we could have been ahead
only Carl Payne headed over when in a good position following a
Remi Whitelock free kick. Carmarthen looked quite useful going
forward and forced a couple of corners but generally our defence
coped with the danger. On 20 minutes they did break into the area
but before their striker could get the ball under control Remi
Whitelock came in and cleared. Corey Thomas tried his luck
from 40 yards when the keeper on the edge of the area cleared to
him but his first time effort went inches over the crossbar. On 28
minutes Damon Thomas made ground through the middle and was fouled
just outside the area, Remi Whitelock was unlucky with the free
kick, hitting the crossbar. Carl Payne beat several players and
crossed for Jonathan Hood but he headed Carl's cross over the bar.
Right on half time we finally had the goal, we played in a couple
of crosses, the second was cleared to Damon Thomas outside the
area and he had time to pick his spot and give the keeper no
chance with a well placed shot.
In the opening minutes of the
second half Damon went down the right and his cross beat the
keeper and just missed the far post. Just afterwards their keeper
who was limping at half time was substituted and the replacement
made an important save off Remi Whitelock. We went two up on 61
minutes when Carl Payne wide left crossed low for Luke Borrelli
coming in at the far post to score with a left footed shot.
It should have been three two minutes later when their keeper's
goal kick went straight to Carl Payne 30 yards out. Carl made
ground into the area but the keeper guessed right and dived to
save Carl's shot. Carl's nightmare in front of goal continued when
from a couple of yards he shot wide following a Luke Borrelli
cross. The third goal was scored after 69 minutes after we were
awarded a free kick for a back pass. Damon Thomas on the edge of
the six yard box rolled it to Remi Whitelock who drilled a left
footer past the keeper. It was four after 72 minutes when Andrew
Collins beat the offside trap some thirty yards from goal and he
ran on unopposed and slotted past the keeper. In similar fashion
Joel Kabia made it 5-0 on 85 minutes when he beat the offside trap
and coolly slotted past the keeper. With minutes remaining came
Remi's injury after he ran thirty yards down the left and crossed
the ball only to get injured to end the game on a sad note.
