Three nil suggests a comfortable win but two of the goals were scored in the
closing minutes and the first was a penalty so it wasn't all plain sailing.
As Ian Jones has been away he played to improve his fitness and it was he
had the first effort on goal shooting wide on 8 minutes. Adam Beynon also
shot wide on 10 minutes before the Porthcawl keeper made a fine save turning
an Ian Jones shot onto the crossbar on 17 minutes. Porthcawl's best
chances
came after 21 minutes when they headed a free kick wide and on 37 minutes
when they hit post from a right wing cross.
We took the lead on 40 minutes
when despite moving the ball away from goal Ian Jones was fouled, he got up
to score the resultant penalty.
Gareth Couch made an easy save from a long range shot in the early stages of
the second half and we could have doubled our lead when Ian Jones headed a
free kick across goal but his header went behind all the runners.
With it
being only 1-0 Porthcawl were still in the game but with a quarter of an
hour to go it looked as though we had doubled our lead when Ian Jones went
around the keeper to score but he was adjudged offside.
With 6 minutes to
go Luke Evans came on for Josh Cockings and Scott Bamsey for Shaun Best and
with his first touch Scott shot from the edge of the area catching the
keeper (and us) by surprise to score with a shot into the corner. Deep
into
added on time Ian Jones headed home a right wing cross to seal the win.
