Afan Lido FC match reports

Oct 8th

Briton Ferry 1-2 Afan Lido

After 731 minutes of league football this season the reserves finally conceded a goal. It came from a very quickly taken free kick in the centre circle from what appeared a rolling ball. The honour of scoring the goal belongs to none other than former Afan Lido player, now in his veteran years, Andrew Webber.

Four minutes later in the 15th minutes we leveled, Shaun Best crossed into Shaun Morgan on the edge of the area and Shaun with his back to goal flicked the ball up and shot into the corner giving the keeper no chance. The Ferry came back at us and Rory McCreesh tipped a dangerous free kick over for a corner.

We went 2-1 up after 25 minutes when close interpassing in midfield between several players saw Shaun Best beat the defence and round the keeper to slot home the goal. Although we now led our performance wasn't the best against a team who are second bottom, admittedly the pitch didn't help but we didn't impose ourselves on the game. Ali Walkley went wide down the left, he crossed in to Matthew Beynon but his shot was blocked and went for a corner.

5 minutes into the second half a Lido attack broke down and the Ferry broke and it needed an alert Rory McCreesh to tip over the shot which came in. We had a corner which Shaun Morgan headed over then we had a free kick on the edge of the area which Adam Beynon hit at the keeper. Another corner was hit in low to Shaun Best whose shot was blocked and cleared.

With 20 minutes to go Matthew Beynon needlessly handled just outside the area but the free kick was straight at Rory McCreesh. Adam Beynon then won the ball in midfield made ground and shot but it was deflected away for another corner. The Ferry encouraged by the fact we couldn't get a third goal pushed forward looking for an equaliser but they didn't quite have the ability in the final third to match the rest of their play.

With 6 minutes to go we were awarded a free kick just outside the area and it was touched to Remi Whitelock who went past the wall and shot just wide of the far post. Try as they might the Ferry couldn't get an equaliser in the closing stages so we continue our 100% record without our performance hitting the heights of previous matches.
