Afan Lido FC match reports

April 14th

Afan Lido 3-0 Bryntirion Athletic

Until the 81st minute we led 1-0 with a goal from Adam Beynon and until we got the second it looked as though Bryntirion might take a share of the spoils.
Both sides started brightly creating several chances, Ali Walkley shot wide with our first real attempt but then on 19 minutes a sweeping move from the back involving 5 players ended with Tom Darlington bringing the ball down but again he shot just wide. Their keeper made a number of good saves to keep the scoreline blank including two in the space of a few minutes from shots by Steve Hughes and Leigh Shrimpton.

Bryntirion were unlucky on the half hour when a fiercely struck shot hit the crossbar and rebounded away. We took the lead on 36 minutes when Leigh Shrimpton played the ball over the back four for Adam Beynon to run on to it and lob the keeper from 15 yards. Again just before the break the Bryntirion keeper kept them in the game with another fine save turning the ball away for a corner. In the early minutes of the second half it was Gareth Couch's turn to distinguish himself when he dived full-length to his right to keep out a close range header.

Just before the hour their keeper again did well to save a free kick but he couldn't hold the ball however we weren't able to turn the loose ball into the net. With 20 minutes to go the keeper again went full length to keep out a header and it was beginning to look as though we wouldn't get the second. From yet another Lido free kick Matt Beynon didn't get enough of a touch on his header and the ball went wide. With 9 minutes to go we finally got the second, it followed a scramble in the Bryntirion area with several players trying to score. Karl Reynolds finally turned the ball in from all of two yards. Like a London bus you wait for one and you get two we almost immediately scored a third. The ball was played wide to Shaun Best who turned the ball inside to Vince Lewis who shot past the keeper from 10 yards. In added on time Gareth Couch dived to his left to save a penalty and preserve his clean sheet.
