Lido took the lead on 11

game.
Just before half time
Croesyceiliog were reduced to 10 men when their left back was given a straight
red for a horrific tackle on young Corey Thomas.
Despite being a man and a
goal up in the 2nd half we couldn't add to the tally and held on for a 1-0
win.

Damon Thomas
signs for neighbours Trefelin |
| |
One of Afan Lido's youth products Damon
Thomas left yesterday and has signed for South Wales Amateur league side
Trefelin. Damon was seeking more regular first team action and decided to sign
for our near neighbours. Good luck to Damon at his new club.
Damon made 3 league appearances

Preview of
Saturday's league game against Croesyceiliog |
| |
We travel to Croesyceiliog on Saturday
looking for our first back to back league victories of the season.
To say Croesyceiliog are
having a bad start to season wouldn't be quite true, yes they are in 15th place
in the table and only one spot above the relegation places, but that's exactly
where they finished at the end of last season, when they avoided relegation by 5
points condemning Maesteg to life in division 2 this season.
They have just one league
victory so far this season and that was against bottom of the table Newport YMCA
1-0 at Mendalgief Road. And that was the only clean sheet they have managed this
season in their 8 league games, and they have conceded 19, only Cwmbran Town
& Caerleon have conceded more.
They had a good result
last time out when they drew 3-3 away at promotion favourites ENTO Aberaman and
they were 2-0 up after just nine minutes.
We must surely be favourites
for all 3 points against Croesy, and a win will take us a few more places up the
table from our current position of 13th, but a long way behind current league
leaders Goytre Utd who are currently 9 points ahead of us in the table after 7
league games.
Our next league fixture is
the following Saturday against Taffs Well, following that game we should
have/hopefully recorded 3 wins on the trot before we host ENTO who are currently
unbeaten away from home.

A Colin Rees
tribute |
| |
The
Funeral of former player Colin Rees who sadly passed away last week will take
place at Margam Crematorium this Thursday 23rd October at 2.30pm.
Colin
played for the club in arguably our most successful period, was involved in our
first major honour when we won The Welsh Intermediate cup and then winning
successive Welsh League Championships. Colin along with his twin brother Conrad
were also involved in our early seasons in the League of Wales, playing a big
role in helping us win the League of Wales cup in 1994.
Colin made many friends
both on and off the field and played a huge part in the history of Afan Lido
Football Club, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Last
Saturday the club held a minute silence and wore black armbands, and this
Thursday’s training has also been cancelled as a mark of respect.
