All not well
at Taffs Well |
|
Lido line up:
R McCreesh, C Payne, R Whitelock, J Williams, M Beynon, A Carpenter, S
McCourbrey, M Chunuonsee, S Morgan, C Thomas, D Lancey.
Subs:
C Langdon, J McEvoy, V Lewis.
Things didn't get off to a good start against
Taffs as the home side went a goal up after 5 minutes.
Taffs went 2 up on 40 minutes when they
converted from the penalty spot to go into half time 2-0 up.
There was no scoring in the 2nd half until the
75th minute when the ref awarded Taffs Well another penalty, which they
gratefully put away to make it 3-0.
Just when it looked like things couldn't get
any worse Taffs added a 4th goal on 80 minutes.
Taffs rounded off a good win for themselves by
scoring a 5th goal in stoppage time to make the final score Taffs Well 5-0 Afan
Lido.
It was better news for our Reserve team who
had little trouble in seeing off lowly Llansawel 6-0 today.

M Chunuonsee, S McCourbrey, S Morgan.

We got off to a good start
when we took the lead on 15 mins with a Scott McCourbrey goal.
We went 2-0 up on 40 mins
through a Mika Chunuonsee free kick, and it got better in the
first half when Scott McCourbrey got his 2nd and our 3rd of the

Croesy match
preview |
|
Saturday we play Gwent side
Croesyceiliog at the Marston.
Croesyceiliog lie in 17th
place in the table, and in big danger of being relegated. It's
their 2nd season on the trot of being involved in a relegation dog
fight, last season they escaped the drop by 5 points condemning
Maesteg to life in division 2 instead.
Last season we did the double
over Croesy, with a 3-1 home win and a 1-0 win away, and this
season we repeated the last season's 1-0 away win, so a 3-1 home
win again would be welcome.
Their away record has seen
them win just once on their travels, against Gwent rivals Newport
YMCA 1-0, they have not lost away from home since the 10th of
October, and managed 2 draws in their last 2 away games, against
Camb & Clydach and ENTO Aberaman, but they haven't played away
in the league since the 1st of November. So that 4 month unbeaten
run is a bit misleading.
We are looking for our first
home win in three starts having lost our last 2 without scoring a
goal, mind you they were home to Barry Town the league in form
team and Goytre Utd, so with a weaker looking squad it is
understandable.
So it is a game we would
expect to get 3 points from, we were very unlucky in our last game
against Caerleon, when our young side were minutes away from a
good 2-0 win, but inexperience in failing to close out the game
cost us 2 points.
We have to make the most of
our home games in the search of points as we only have 4 home
games left from our final 14 league games.

Lido held by
late showing by Caerleon |
|
The squad for Mark and Vince's
2nd game in charge is:
R McCreesh, C Thomas, J Williams, R Williams, S Morgan,
S McCourbrey, A Carpenter,
M Chunuonsee (Capt), M Beynon, D Lancey, R Whitelock.
Subs:
J McEvoy, C Langdon, A Collins, Vince Lewis.
We got off to a great start when
we took the lead from a Remi Whitelock corner and Shaun Morgan rose
to put it in the back of the net.
We went 2-0 on 69 minutes with a
screamer from Dan Lancey. Just
when it looked like getting back to winning ways, Caerleon
snatched a goal 3 minutes from time, and to compound it they drew
level 3 minutes into added on time to make it 2-2. A
disappointing result from the view we were far the better team and
deserving of the 3 points.

Barry Town
match review |
|
Not a great start for Mark
Robbo's new reign as Lido manager following a 3-0 home defeat at
the hands of Barry Town, our 3rd home defeat of the season at a
3-0 scoreline, the others came at the hands of Pontardawe and ENTO
Aberaman.
Though the scoreline was made
good reading for the away fans, with the 1st and 3rd goals gifted
to the opposition by Lido mistakes, in saying that even if we did
gift them the 2 goals we never looked like scoring any way
ourselves.
The first goal we gifted Barry
came on 32 minutes, and went down 2-0 on 53 minutes, the 2nd Lido
gift to Barry finished off the scoring at 3-0.
Though the side played well
throughout the game we lacked the cutting edge, which is only to
be expected with so many changes to the starting line up.
Barry Town are now unbeaten in
10 games and go top of division 1.
Lido line up:
R McCreesh, C Thomas, L Shrimpton, R Morgan, P Lenihan, S Morgan,
S McCourbrey, A Carpenter,
S Wade, M Beynon, D Lancey.
Subs:
G Couch, R Whitelock, J McEvoy, J Langdon, A Keefe.
Attendance 145.

Barry Town
match preview |
|
This Friday night's we take on
Barry Town at the Marston, and we will have a different looking
squad line out than for the previous few games, although we will
only be missing 2 players that started the game against Bettws
being Mike Waters and Karl Lewis as Ian Turner would have missed
that game through injury, and hopefully we will have Mika back
from injury. Also we will have a familiar face back in the dug out
following the departures of Craig Duggan and Dai Rees, as Mark
Robbo takes temporary charge of the first team.
Their departure and that of
Mike Waters and Ian Turner left no time to bring in players before
the transfer window closed the following day.
We go into the Barry Town game
with a very poor record against the top 7 teams in the division
this season, in fact we have only won 1 game out of 8 against
teams in the top 7, and that win came against our opponents on
Friday night when we beat Barry Town 2-0 back on 25th of November,
we have won 1 drawn 3 and lost 4 of those 8 against the top 7.
A top two finish now looks to
be a pipe dream as we are 11 points off Bettws but with 3 games in
hand, 4 points off Goytre and played 3 games more and 3 points off
Aberaman and played 1 game more.
Barry Town are on a great run
of form at the moment and are unbeaten in 9 league games, their
last defeat came against us back in November, since that they have
rattled off 6 wins and 3 draws, and have won their last 3 games
with ENTO Aberaman being their last victims 2-0, they have also
failed to concede a goal in their last 4 games and only let in 5
since their last defeat against us.
So it's going to be a tough
game against the former kings of welsh domestic soccer, but a good
turn out and vocal support from the stands for the boys will be a
big boost for a tricky encounter.
