Good
afternoon and welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Taffs
Well Football Club to the Marston’s Stadium for this afternoon’s
MacWhirter Welsh League Division One match.
I’d also like to welcome our referee Chris Baynton
from Brecon and his assistants John Webb from Swansea and Phil Lang from
Sandfields. Our opponents currently lie in the lower reaches of
the league table but nevertheless gained a creditable home draw against
Aberaman last Saturday. We
must take nothing for granted and hopefully put in a spirited
performance to gain another 3 points to help us continue to climb the
table
In our last home match we gained an emphatic 4-0 win
against Caerleon with Mark Jones scoring 2 with1 apiece for Scott
McCoubrey and Sam Wade. We
played some really good football and on another day the winning margin
could have been much higher but for some woeful finishing in front of
goal.
Last Saturday we travelled to Croesyceiliog and came
away with a 1-0 win. Mark Jones scored the only goal in the first half,
a half that we totally dominated but yet again we were wasteful in front
of goal. The game should
have been over at half time but we had to rely on Leon Cosker in goal
very late on to pull off an excellent save to keep a winning scoreline.
Once again in the second half we had a number of chances to
increase our lead but our strikers and widemen were found wanting in the
final third of the field.
On saying that; two consecutive wins and two clean
sheets has seen us move up the table.
We are creating numerous chances at the moment which is always a
positive sign and the young team are growing in confidence.
Karl Lewis, Tomos Wellington and Corey Thomas all
picked up injuries last Saturday but have all trained this week and are
available for today's game. Mika
Chunuonsee has missed the last two matches and will sit out today's game
as well but hopefully the influential midfielder will be back in
contention for a start against his former club Bryntirion next Friday in
the Cup game.
Enjoy the game
