Afan Lido FC match reports

AFC  Porth 0-4 Afan Lido

Two goals in the last five minutes distorted the scoreline and makes this look like an easy result and it was anything but that. AFC Porth made it difficult for us and until Mark Jones netted the second on 73 minutes we could easily have lost this tie. Porth had an early corner which they knocked beyond the far post and Rory McCreesh dived to turn the shot away for another corner which went behind for a goal kick. Scott McCoubrey played a cross field pass to Michael Waters whose cross was cut out but Scott picked up the ball and shot from outside the box but it lacked any power to trouble the keeper.

On 10 minutes another cross from Michael Waters was cleared straight to Tom Wellington who shot from just outside the area forcing the keeper to push away his goalbound effort. Porth had a free kick some 40 yards out but although they got a header in, the ball went over the bar. We took the lead on 14 minutes when Mika Chunuonsee played the ball forward to Ian Jones wide right, Ian made ground and crossed low into the box picking out Daniel Lancey who took the ball forward a couple of yards before shooting from 10 yards giving the keeper no chance.

On 25 minutes we were awarded a free kick for hand ball some 30 yards out. The ball was played to Scott McCoubrey who turned and shot, the ball going out for a corner from which Porth were awarded a free kick. Just on the half hour Michael Waters fed Daniel Lancey who cut inside and squared the ball but it was cut out with Ian and Mark Jones both waiting. Tom Wellington then fed \Scott McCoubrey who again cut inside but his shot from the edge of the area failed to trouble the keeper. Rory McCreesh again did well when a Porth attacker found himself one on one with Rory who tackled him and cleared the danger. In another Lido attack a Porth defender under pressure hit his clearance straight at another defender the ball rebounding for a corner a matter of inches wide of the post for what could have been an unfortunate own goal. Porth then won a couple of corners, the second cleared by Shaun Morgan to Daniel Lancey, he lost the ball some 30 yards from goal and a Porth player fired his shot over the bar. Just before the interval they again attacked and Rhys Williams cleared for a corner, again they got a header in but Rory McCreesh dived to his left to save.

Early in the second half we could have increased the lead, the ball was played forward to Ian Jones who played Mark Jones in on the keeper. The keeper managed to block the ball which rebounded onto Mark and just wide of the post. Porth came back at us again and Rhys Williams headed clear. Shaun Morgan then cleared the ball straight to a Porth forward and we were again under pressure. Michael Waters cleared the danger but they again came forward but again shot over the bar from the edge of the area. On 56 minutes a Mika Chunuonsee pass was cut out and Porth again came forward but the shot was straight at Rory McCreesh.

On the hour we won a corner on the left, the ball was played to Shaun Morgan beyond the far post but he headed wide. The Porth keeper put us under pressure when he kicked long into our half and Rory, Rhys Williams and a Porth attacker all challenged for the ball which went out wide of our area. With Rory out of goal they tried a shot but it went wide of the target. Carl Payne replaced Daniel Lancey on 66 minutes and was soon into the game. The ball was knocked wide to him and he made ground into the box but he delayed his shot and the chance was lost.

On 73 minutes we finally scored a second, the ball was played to Mark Jones on the edge of the area, he turned quickly and lost the defender and shot across the keeper just inside the post. With a quarter of an hour to go Rory McCreesh again made a save after Porth attacked down the right the ball was squared to their 12 Adam Wright who took a touch before shooting from 12 yards. Rory dived to his left to make a fine save. Minutes later he was punching the ball clear after another Porth free kick. Sam Wade replaced Ian Jones on 83 minutes and two minutes later headed in a free kick following a foul on Mark Jones. Within seconds it was four when the keeper could only parry a powerful Mark Jones hot and Carl Payne followed up to net the rebound.
