We went in at half time only one goal up and the consensus of opinion was who
should have been at least three up. In the second half we took our chances
but disappointingly failed to keep a clean sheet when they scored with two
minutes to go. Carl Evans was still unavailable but Shaun Morgan is home
from the RAF and played.
The Dinas Powys defence failed all day to cope with the ball being played over
the top for our runners to pick up, on another day we might have been close to
double figures, yet we should have been behind after 6 minutes when we struggled
to clear the ball and a Dinas midfielder shot at the empty goal only to put his
shot the wrong side of the post. From the goal kick Scott McCoubrey played
a diagonal ball wide to Adam Carpenter but instead of shooting he cut inside and
was crowded out. On the quarter hour another ball over the top was picked
up by Shaun Best but his shot went over the bar. Luke Borrelli played the
ball to Adam Carpenter but with players waiting for a square ball in the box his
delivery was poor and the ball was cut out by a defender. Scott McCoubrey
had a shot saved by the keeper then on 40 minutes we finally took the lead.
Rory McCreesh took a goal kick which found its way to Scott McCoubrey wide
right, he cut inside and shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net.
Just before the interval we had a free kick 35 yards out in a central position
but unlike Wednesday's effort Adam Carpenter's shot hit the wall and was
cleared.
We went two up after 48 minutes when the ball was played wide left to Scott
McCoubrey who made ground towards the corner flag cut inside and rolled the ball
in for Mika Chunuonsee to tap in from a couple of yards. Luke Borrelli
picked up a loose ball 35 yards from our goal and played the ball forward for
Scott McCoubrey who lobbed the keeper as he came out to net his second of the
game. On 67 minutes Craig Langdon replaced Shaun Best and scored with his
first touch, again Scott McCoubrey had the ball wide right and crossed low into
the area both the keeper and a defender made a hash of clearing the ball and
Craig stabbed the ball home from two yards for his first senior goal. It
was now only a case of how many we'd score, Mika Chunuonsee took a free kick
from 25 yards which from the dug out looked in and Karl Reynolds picked up a
loose ball and shot from 25 yards, the keeper made a fine save turning the ball
away for a corner. James McEvoy and Craig Langdon combined well down the
right wing before Craig crossed the ball but no-one was in the area to take
advantage. We made it five on 86 minutes following another sweeping move,
the keeper made a save but it rebounded to Scott McCoubrey who drilled in his
third of the day. Disappointingly within a minute some sloppy defending
allowed Dinas to score and spoil what should have been a clean sheet.
