Having not scored since the Cardiff Corries game back on December 20th Scott
McCoubrey made up for lost time with a hat trick. His goals in the 14th,
45+1 and 73rd were the icing on the cake for a good all round display by the
team.
The game started slowly with neither side able to gain an advantage but after
7 minutes Scott McCoubrey made ground down the right but his cross was just
too high for Shaun Morgan in the area. From the goal kick the ball was
played to Shaun Morgan who lay the ball for Scott McCoubrey who shot first
time from 30 yards but it was straight at the keeper. After 10 minutes a
free kick conceded by Shaun Morgan was played into our area and some slack
marking allowed a snap shot which Rory McCreesh saved turning the ball behind
for a corner. That was a good start for Rory and would hopefully give
him confidence, we cleared the corner and knocked the ball wide to Daniel
Lancey on the right, he cut in and shot across the keeper and was unlucky to
his shot hit the post and rebound into play, Corey Thomas had followed in but
was too far forward and the ball rebounded past him.
We had a couple of
throws in down the right side and Carl Payne fed Shaun Morgan but he was
tackled and the ball cleared, it only went as far as Corey Thomas who played
it wide left for Scott McCoubrey. Scott beat a couple of defenders and
shot across the keeper and into the net to give us a lead we probably just
deserved. This gave us some encouragement and we now picked up the pace
of the game and started to control it. However on 21 minutes Rhys
Williams in bringing the ball clear lost control and fouled a Croesyceiliog
player, it was a clear booking but instead of the players allowing the referee
to handle matters several got involved and as a result Shaun Morgan and Jody
Jenkins also found themselves in the book. Reminiscent of last week we had a
spell just before the half hour when we couldn't clear our lines, however they
couldn't take advantage of it with a shot going wide to give us a goal kick.
We almost went two up on 35 minutes when Scott McCoubrey and Carl Payne
combined down the right and Carl's measured cross for Shaun Morgan was tipped
over the crossbar by John Bailey in goal.
The second goal duly arrived
after 42 minutes, it followed a mazy run by Scott McCoubrey who cut in from
the right and beat several players before being tripped in the D. Mica
Chunuonsee repeated his feat in the Ton Pentre game placing the ball into the
top right hand corner giving the keeper no chance. In the first minute
of added time Scott McCoubrey made it 3-0, Mica Chunuonsee had the ball left
side of the field and played a cross ball to Scott who again cut inside and
shot from all of thirty yards giving the keeper no chance low to his right.
Croesyceiliog effectively were now playing for pride and started the second
half quite well but they found themselves four down after 50 minutes. We
were awarded a free kick which we played short to Carl Payne, he knocked it
forward to Adam Carpenter who with his back to goal chested the ball down and
turned to fire an unstoppable shot from 20 yards. The keeper got his
hands to it but the shot packed too much power for him to save. Croesyceiliog were then awarded a free kick 20 yards out but Rory McCreesh again handled
well and threw out to Remi Whitelock to start off another attack. Just
before the hour Daniel Lancey again received the ball out wide, he cut in and
shot, the keeper turned the ball over for a corner. Corey Thomas and Carl
Payne combined well down the right but Carl strayed offside for the final
pass. Scott bagged his hat trick on 73 minutes, Shaun Morgan wide right
crossed in for Scott but his shot hit the post, he reacted quickest and turned
the rebound in for his eleventh league goal of the season.
The game was
well and truly over and it was just a case of seeing if either side could
score again, the nearest was in the final minute when James McEvoy combined
with Craig Langdon to play the overlapping Carl Payne in but he shot just
wide. This was an entertaining game well refereed by Teifion Cook who
allowed some excellent advantages to keep the game flowing. The bookings were
deserved and handled correctly with all three officials consulting before any
cards were shown.
