Another four goals and three points and being greedy we should have scored
more but we produced another fine performance which on times had them
bewildered.
In the first couple of minutes Tomos Wellington picked up a loose ball in
midfield played it forward to Sam Wade who in turn found Scott McCoubrey, Scott
shot wide of goal with Mark Jones closing in at the far post. Corries had
a free kick some 35 yards out which hit a player and Leon Cosker did well to
save the shot at the expense of a corner.
Around 20 minutes we finally
started to play and a corner was cleared to Sam Wade who laid it off for Carl
Payne who shot just wide from the edge of the box. From the goal kick the
ball was played to Mark Jones who powered his way into the box but as he shot
one of the Corries players managed to get in a block and the ball ran away for a
corner. Corries should have taken the lead on 25 minutes when we lost the
ball just outside our area, they played a 1-2 but Leon Cosker stood up and
blocked the shot. Three minutes later good defending stopped us from
taking the lead, Michael Waters knocked in a free kick which was headed out to
Mika Chunuonsee who shot first time and a defender suddenly appeared to headed
it off the line.
We did take the lead on 33 minutes and the pressure had
been building, we had a free kick 22 yards out in a central position, the keeper
failed to hold Michael Waters shot which had bounced just in front of him, the
ball was half cleared to Mika Chunuonsee, he shot and again it was blocked but
came out to Karl Lewis who fired an unstoppable right footed shot into the net
from 12 yards. Just before the interval Mark Jones made it two when Mika
Chunuonsee broke up a Corries attack, carried the ball forward about 10 yards
then played a long ball forward which caught out the central defence and Mark
buried his shot from the edge of the area.
We should have been three up on 47 minutes when Carl Payne split the defence and
Mark Jones and Scott McCoubrey both went through on the keeper. Scott went
around the keeper to score, problem was he was offside when the ball was played,
if Mark had scored it would have stood as he was onside. It didn't come
back to haunt us though as we then scored 2 goals in a minute to wrap up the 3
points. After 55 minutes Ian Turner wide right crossed to Mark Jones who
headed down, the keeper couldn't hold it and Carl Payne from a couple of yards
headed his first league goal at the Marston's Stadium. His previous league goals
were at Pontardawe and Garw last season. Almost straight from the kick off
we won the ball back and Carl Payne got to the byeline and crossed to Mark Jones
who headed down for Sam Wade to shoot, Sam's shot was blocked but Scott
McCoubrey reacted first to score. Michael Waters won the ball just inside our
half and made ground at speed and crossed into Mark Jones but the keeper made a
save.
With 6 minutes to go Mika Chunuonsee took a free kick from 22 yards
but lifted it just over the crossbar and with 2 minutes to go Luke Borrelli
picked up a loose ball and passed to Scott McCoubrey, his shot was blocked and
fell nicely to Carl Payne but his shot was cleared off the line and away for a
corner. In the last seconds of the game Michael Waters passed to Mark
Jones on half way, Mark was fouled but the ref played a great advantage and Mark
found Scott McCoubrey who made ground and returned the ball to Mark who beat a
couple of defenders and from a couple of yards rolled the ball wide of the far
post!
