We left a number of youth players out of the
side ahead of the MacWhirter Group Cup semi-final against Cwmbran Celtic.
As a result in parts this was a typical end of season performance against a side
higher than us in the league.
Shaun Best came to our aid after 15 minutes
when he bravely headed the ball clear from inside our area with Cambrian looking
to gain an early advantage. We were struggling to cope with Jason Bertorelli and
he beat a couple of defenders but shot wide of Gareth Couch's far post. On
24 minutes Cambrian took the lead, a corner was swung over from the right hand
side and Dane Williams (8) rose above everyone to powerfully head the ball into
the net. Minutes later a long diagonal ball into the area was again headed by
Williams but this time Gareth Couch made a very good save. Craig Langdon
gave us some hope with 3 minutes to go to the break when he won the ball forty
yards from goal and beat a couple of players, he lost the ball but challenged
and won it back and shot from just outside the area but his shot went wide.
We started the second half a lot better and
tried to keep the ball and spread it wide, 5 minutes into the half we played the
ball into the box but Shaun Best fouled the defender and conceded a free kick.
Gareth Couch was again on his toes when they played the ball into Huw Bowtell's
(9) chest but before he could get in a shot Gareth Couch nipped the ball off his
feet. We went two down on the hour when Jason Bertorelli won the ball in
midfield, beat a couple of defenders and slotted the ball past Gareth Couch.
With 20 minutes to go Mika Chunuonsee fed the ball through for Shaun Best, he
shot past the keeper but the ball hit the post and was cleared. Cambrian
had a goal disallowed for offside although Gareth Couch was down injured at the
time and Bertorelli went through chipped Gareth but hit the crossbar.
