Afan Lido 6-2 Bryntirion Ath

An impressive performance from Afan Lido earned them a place in the third round of the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup, brushing aside visitors Bryntirion Athletic - beaten finalists last season.

Afan Lido led 4-1 at half-time and Bryntirion just couldn't cope with the pace and skill of the home side with Sam Wade, a former Cardiff City youngster from Swansea, giving a shining show in the wind and rain, frequently leaving Bryntirion chasing shadows.

Craig Duggan, a delighted Afan Lido manager, said: "To score six goals at home, I am happy with that. For goalkeeper Rory McCreesh it was his first start of the season and both strikers (Ian Jones and Sam Wade) have not played a lot this season and both acquitted themselves very well."

And Duggan had a special word for Wade's showing. He said: "It was his best game for us, working ever so hard and a real thorn in their side. He led the line well and got two goals."

And it was Wade who quickly established the standards with a sixth-minute goal and then minutes later Carl Payne added a second. Ian Jones made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute before Adam Carpenter pulled a goal back a minute later. But Afan Lido restored their three-goal advantage five minutes from the break with a Mark Jones penalty, the first of his two goals and he could so easily have notched a hat-trick.

He got his second after 55 minutes and not long before Wade rounded off his side's scoring in the 87th minute Jones, with clever footwork on the left, created an opening but his chipped shot was just wide of the mark.

Battling Bryntirion gained a second goal three minutes from time through Luke James, but the outcome of the tie had long been decided
