Former Lido player Craig Jones makes Wales squad

The club (and Webby) would like to congratulate former Lido youth & senior player Craig Jones on his inclusion to the welsh under 23 squad.

Craig who signed professional forms for Llanelli in pre-season has played 12 games in all competitions this season for the reds scoring 1 goal, makes the squad of 16 managed by Tony Pennock.

Their first game against Italy will be played on Wednesday 14 November 2007 in the Municipal Stadium, Varese with a kick-off 2.30pm.

Future games for Wales will be away to England in February 2008 and at home to Finland in November 2008.

Craig's dad Steve is on the Lido club committee and is junior club treasurer, and must be a very proud dad.

The whole of the Lido wishes Craig the very best of luck in the competition.

Reserves lose in extra time to Caerleon in cup tie

We travelled to Caldicot looking to preserve our unbeaten league record, we did keep the record in tact (5 draws & 2 wins) but failed to take all 3 points, against Caldicot who played most of the 2nd half with 10 men, they had a player sent off for a 2 legged challenge. Not much else to report from the game.

The much awaited top of the table clash postponed

Tomorrow we were due to face Baglan under 12's in a top of the table clash at Evans Bevan.

Both teams are unbeaten with Lido on a 100% win record of 4 wins from 4 games, while Baglan have 3 wins and a draw from their 4 games. But we will have to wait for another day for the battle of the big 2.

Squad for Caldicot game tomorrow

Don't know if there has been a league match between the two sides before, but to the best of my knowledge the last time we met was in the welsh cup on October 2nd in the 2004-05 season when we beat them 1-0 with Karl Reynolds scoring the only goal.

The squad for tomorrow's game is.

Wyn Walters - C Latham - C Martin - P Evans - S Parry - K Lewis - S O'Leary - K Howells - Greg Hurley - A Pearson - S Davies - C Edwards - A Keefe - C Thomas - R Mcreesh - D Williams.

Dan Williams makes a welcome return to the squad following his injury in the Ton Pentre game.

In other club news Keeper Gareth Scantlebury has re-signed for the Lido, Scants was most recently with Maesteg.

The Memory Man comes to the rescue
Having seen my write up about not knowing whether we had played Caldicot Town previously in a league game. Peter Reynolds put me right that we have indeed played Caldicot Town before in league competition. We played them in the welsh league division 1 in the 1996-97 season beating them home and away.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 1 AWAY 2-0 C Piper, K Reynolds
SATURDAY APRIL 26 HOME 3-1 M Cook (2), S O'Leary

In that year we finished 6th in the table, while Caldicot Town ended bottom of the league and were relegated, this being their first season back in the top division since, lets hope history repeats itself and we get an away win tomorrow.

A player who scored in the home win back all them decades ago is back in the squad for tomorrow's game, being the evergreen Shaun O'Leary, so the omens are looking good, I wonder if Caldicot have a player still playing in the first team that played in the same fixture in 1997 ??

Lido back to winning ways as Croesy's bad start goes on

We got off to a flying start at the Marston today, we were 2-0 after just 13 minutes.

We took the lead on 8 minutes with a goal from Chris Latham. Andy Pearson doubled that lead 5 minutes later. And in injury time we went 3-0 up with a 2nd from Andy Pearson, to go in at the break comfortably ahead.

The 2nd half didn't quite go the way of the first as we failed to add any more goals and just a consolation for the visitors when they scored in the 82nd minute.

A good win as our unbeaten start to the season continues, 6 games unbeaten.

More tomoz.

Another blast from the past re-joins Lido

It's hard to stay away from the Lido, as this week shows.

Along with Paul Ev's and Greg Hurley coming back to the club, former captain and favorite Shaun O'Leary is set for a return after leaving at the end of last season due to his new job in the Fire service.

Shaun is expected to sign tonight and may be available for Saturday's squad to face Croesy at the Marston.

All square between Taffs & Lido

Tonight's game was only our 5th league game of the season away to Taff's Well, and it was the home side who drew first blood, when they opened the scoring in the 43 minute.

But Andrew Pearson drew us level on 73 minutes to level things up.

But neither side could muster up a winner so all square tonight and that still leaves us unbeaten after 5 game, but still just the one win.

Report to follow 2moz.

Afan Lido play away to Queens Park in rd3

The draw has been made for the 3rd round of the welsh cup and we have been drawn away to Queens Park, we face the long journey to Glasgow and Hampden Park to meet Queens.

Only joking this Queens Park or GAP Queens Park as they are now known currently lie 5th in the Cymru Alliance. They play out of the impressive Queensway Stadium in Wrexham which boasts over 1,000 seats.

This season they were saved from relegation by failure of lower league teams from claiming their place in the CA league. Things really started to look up when they were bought out by GAP personnel ltd Wales No 1 Recruitment Agency. Their aim is to secure welsh premier status in the near future.

The full draw for the 3rd round is

Aberystwyth Town v Neath Athletic
Bryntirion Athletic v Dinas Powys
Caerleon v Brymbo
Caersws FC v Bangor City
Connah's Quay Nomads v Guilsfield
ENTO Aberaman v Caerau Ely
GAP Queens Park v Afan Lido
Haverfordwest County v Ton Pentre
Llangefni Town v Mynydd Isa
Llanrug v Llanelli AFC
Nefyn United v Caernarfon Town
NEWI Cefn Druids v Holyhead Hotspur
Newport YMCA v Carmarthen Town
Newtown AFC v Maesteg Park
Rhyl FC v Port Talbot Town
Tywyn Bryncrug v Welshpool Town
Ties to be played on Saturday 3 November 2007.

Lido come back to claim victory in Cup

The Lido had to come back from a goal down to overcome Croesyceiliog in the welsh cup today.

The visitors took the lead after the 13th minute, but their lead was short lived when new old boy Andy Pearson drew Lido level on 18 minutes.

Lido had to wait until the 75 minute to take the lead when Andy Pearson scored his and Lido's second on 75 minutes.

Steve Davies killed the tie late on with Lido's third to finish the scoring at 3-1.

Squad for 2moz's cup game against Croesyceiliog

Our squad for tomorrow's cup game is below, and we are back to full strength for this tough looking fixture. Our two league meetings last season with Croesy were both tight affairs and both games were decided by the odd goal, we won the home game 3-2 with goals Ianto (2) and S Parry, while Croesy won their home game 2-1 Ianto scoring for Lido.

They have made a disappointing start to their 2nd season in division 1 and only managed their first league win at the 7th attempt last time out, but it was against the strong outfit ENTO Aberaman, winning 3-2 at home and they came back from 2-0 down to clinch the victory.

Lido squad:

        Wyn Walters
        Aaron Keefe
        Craig Martin
        Justin Williams
        Kieran Howells
        Christopher Latham
        Stephen Davies

Another record month for the website

September turned out to be another record month for the Afan Lido website, surpassing July's record of 22,893.

With the bad luck of just failing to record 29,000 by just one visit. The new record is 28,999 and another new record was having 10 days with over 1,000 visits. The average daily visits was 967, and a new record was set on Sept 24th with 1,461.

October looks like being another good month when we just failed yesterday to record a new daily record by 19 visits (1,442)

The new UK Soccer news feature has turned out to be another big hit in attracting visitors to the website along with Lido & Welsh soccer news.
