Reserves have an easy win 4-0

The reserves made light work of Ammanford's recent good form. They ran out comfortable 4-0 winners, with a brace from Chris Latham, Corey Thomas and Matt Lavis scored the other 2.

Tonight's win takes the boys top of the league.

Reserves playing at home tonight

The reserves are playing at home tonight in a league game against Ammanford.

And a win for the boys will see them top the table, jumping Garden Village and current leaders Goytre Utd. But it will not be easy as Ammanford are on a roll, unbeaten in 6 games, with 4 victories in their last 4 games.

But they have not come up against the clubs all time top scorer this season, the evergreen Mitch Patton who is on fire with 5 goals in his last 4 games.

Lido putting in extra training for cup tie

The first team were taking extra training recently to get themselves ready to face Port Talbot in Saturday's cup quarter final, it seems they are expecting a tough battle on the pitch.

Gaffer Evo led the way showing how it's done and how to avoid getting hit by a sucker punch during the game:)

Top scorer Ianto pulls up in training

There was an injury concern last night when the teams top scorer Ian Jones pulled up in training with a tight calf. Ianto will be checked out again on Thursday night's training. Ianto is the teams top scorer with 30 goals so far this season in all competitions, and would be a big loss for Saturdays cup tie with Port Talbot.

Dinas game updates

Things didn't go quite to plan in this one. We went a goal down after 18 minutes, but Carl Evans got us back on track after 39 minutes.

All square at 1-1 at half time. Flu victim Ianto was passed fit and started the game.

Just one more goal in the 2nd half, and it came from the now 30 goal marksman Ianto.

Final score Dinas Powys 1-2 Afan Lido

Team news and preview for Dinas game

Our only injury worries for tomorrows away game against Dinas Powys are: Top scorer Ianto is only rated at 50/50 as he is suffering with the flu. Also Liam McCreesh is suffering with a know injury. Te rest of the squad are all fit and raring to go.

Have just heard that the Dinas pitch doesn't look gr8 today, hopefully it wont fall foul of the weather.

Dinas Preview.

Dinas Powys recent form has taken a turn for the better (if your a Dinas fan that is) and seem to be settling down under new manager Tucker.

Their form is fairly even, played 9, won 4, drawn 2 and lost 3, scored 12 conceded 12.

Against top contenders they faired well holding both Pontypridd and Ton Pentre to score draws. Their 4 victories have come against the lesser lights of the division, Newport YM, Pontardawe, Croesyceiliog and Barry Town.

We need this game to take place tomoz and all 3 points, we are now in the position of having played the least games of any side in the division, and with more cup games coming up it could have a detrimental effect on any chance we had of winning promotion, with the likelihood of playing several league game a week towards the end of the season.

Merthyr go back top of the youth league

Our stint at the top of the welsh youth league only lasted 24 hours as Merthyr hosted near rivals ENTO Aberaman and ran out very comfortable winners, winning 6-1.

Merthyr top the table again on goal difference from our side and still have 2 games in hand.

Lido youths trounce Port Talbot 6-1

Our welsh league youth team were at home tonight against local rivals Port Talbot and a win would lift the lads into top spot in the table.

It was not just a win over Port Talbot but a 6-1 hammering, but our reign at the top of the table may be short lived as Merthyr are in action tomorrow night at home to ENTO Aberaman.

Lido gaffer live at the Emirates tonight

Tonight we have live score updates from the Emirates Stadium where Cardiff City play Arsenal.

Our man in the thick of it is Gaffer Phil, Phil is there with his son Lewis who also plays for Cardiff City.

Arsenal took the lead but Cardiff soon equalised. The Gunners then went ahead 2-1 but not before City had a chance to equalise but they missed a penalty.

Going into half time Arsenal increased their lead to make it 3-1 at half time.

Cardiff pulled a goal back in the 2nd half, but finally went down 3-2.

Tonight's game against Taffs Well is off

News of tonight's game against Taffs Well has come through, and the game has been postponed.

The pitch was inspected by referee Paul Fisher and he cancelled the game due to a waterlogged pitch.

The game has been re-arranged for Tuesday April 24th with a 7:30 kick off.

Other fixture changes are: Due to Bridgend now using Locks Lane (Porthcawl) the game has been switched to Saturday 24th March, as Locks Lane doesn't have floodlights.

Also Bryntirion away is now on Wednesday May 9th. Match reports/fixtures have been updated for new schedules.

Taffs team news and preview

The team news for tonight's home game with Taffs Well.

Out of the squad are Shaun O'Leary, Justin Williams and Phil Holmes.

In come Craig Jones, Matt Lavis and John Felton.

Taffs Preview

Taffs are no slouches on their travels this season, they have notched up 6 wins on the road, but they have not beaten a team higher than 9th which was against Bryntirion, the other 5 wins have been against teams struggling near the foot of the table, they haven't faired well against potential league champs, having lost to Ton Pentre 6-0, Goytre 4-2 and Neath 2-1.

Their record stands at played 13, won 6 drawn 2 and lost 5. Though they have lost only once in their last 5 away games. They have amassed 20 of their 31 point total on the road, so we will have to put aside thoughts of the pending Port Talbot game and get down to biz of securing 3 points in the league.

On a final note my main man for match reports Peter Reynolds is laid up at home with a badly swollen foot, so he may need a piggy back to get to tonight's game, so if a few of you are passing his house on the way to the game, call for him and carry him to the game, gotta get my match report :)

3rds game may beat the weather

The Lido 3rds game had a pitch inspection at 12pm today (don't know the outcome of that) but if it goes ahead, they are in for a tough game. They are due to face league leaders Cwmafan Welfare in the Design printers Div 1 challenge cup 1st rd.

Cwmafan are the run away leaders in division 1 having won all of their 16 games and scored 96 goals along the way (an average of 6 per game)

We have played them twice in the league and were beaten 5-2 away and 3-0 at home.

Not a game to be seen anywhere

The bad weather has seen not only our game at Cold blow lane against Caerleon being called off but their is a possibility their wont be a single game played anywhere today. All 7 Welsh premier league games have been called off, and I imagine all Welsh league games will have the same fate.

Just having written not a game in sight I get an email from Janine Underwood telling me the under 12's had played at Trefelin and managed a storming 11-0 win.

The scorers were Travis Monks 3, Jack Underwood 2, Jake Price 2, Sean Griffiths 2, Jack Lewis 1 and Kyle Cockings 1. Young Jack Underwood's 2 goals today takes his tally for the season up to 20, well done Jack.

The Lido 3rds game had a pitch inspection at 12pm today (don't know the outcome of that, but if it goes ahead, they are in for a tough game. They are due to face league leaders Cwmafan Welfare in the Design printers Div 1 challenge cup 1st rd. Cwmafan are the run away leaders in division 1 having won all of their 16 games

Caerleon team news and preview

The team news ahead of our trip to Gwent to take on Caerleon is.

Out: John Felton is missing as he will be sunning himself in sunny Egypt with the RAF. Carlo Evans is out still suffering from Concussion, Phil (the Gaffer) Holmes is out with fatigue his old legs won't carry him like they used to. Greg Hurley will earn himself a little rest having been a nearly ever present this season.

Into the squad come: Carl Edwards, Chris Latham, Mathew Lavis and Craig Jones who was a doubt.

Caerleon Preview

When we travel to Gwent tomoz, we will be looking for our 3rd league double of the season (Aberaman & UWIC being the other 2) but we will remember our home game against Caerleon in September when they ran us close, and we only took all 3 points due to A dramatic late winner from Shaun O'Leary.

Caerleon tend to do things in 3's or 4's that win 3 or lose 3 or 4 on the trot. their last 6 home games have 3 defeats followed by 3 wins in their last 3 home games, so it should be time to start the losing sequence again tomoz. Their home record shows 9 games played won 4, lost 5, they haven't beaten a top half team in the league this season having lost to Taffs, Neath, Croesy, Ton Pentre and Pontypridd.

Dare I say it, they have yet to draw a game in the league this season home or away, on a final note, Ianto will be looking to notch his 30th goal of the season tomoz as he currently lies on 29 goals from just 23 games (16 in the league & 13 in the cup)

Lido Ladies hit for 11 by Pontardawe

Our Ladies took on the form team in the league, when we hosted 2nd placed Pontardawe last night at the Marston Stadium in a re-arranged game that was due to be played last Sunday.

And Ponty showed why they have risen to 2nd place in the league, as they comprehensively beat our team 11-0.

Last night's win was Ponty's 6th win in a row and their 6th clean sheet in a row, they now close the gap on Swansea to 7 points with 2 games in hand.

Games on tomoz and Wednesday @ Marston

Afan Lido under 19

Tomorrow night at the Marston Stadium the under 19's take on Neath at 7:pm. Neath currently lie in 4th place on 19 points, 6 behind our under 19's, while we lie 3 points behind leaders Merthyr. We still hold an unbeaten record in the league after 11 games winning 7. On Tuesday night Merthyr are at home to Port Talbot at Penydarren park, even a win for Lido and defeat for Merthyr would still see them top on superior goal difference.

Lido Ladies

On Wednesday night our Ladies are in action at home in the re-arranged game against Pontardawe, kick off is at 7:pm. This will be a very tough match as Pontardawe are much improved since the start of the season and currently lie 2nd in the table with 6 wins and 2 defeats. And can boast of being the only team in the league to beat the league leaders Swansea City on the 14th January by 2-0.

Lido draw Port Talbot in Q/Final

Afan Lido made it through to the quarter finals of the welsh cup with a 2-1 win at Ely Rangers.

And our reward is a Quarter final tie away to arch rivals Port Talbot Town, the tie will be played on March 3rd. The whole team are delighted with the draw and are glad it is an away tie, as with recent history between the clubs Lido tended to win away against Port and Port tended to win at Lido.

The full quarter final draw is.

Port Talbot - Afan Lido
Carmarthen - Porthmadog
Holyhead - Welshpool
Llanelli - Connah's Quay

Ely cup match team news

The team news ahead of our welsh cup game this Saturday against Ely Rangers.

Into the squad come Carl Edwards and Chris Latham.

Out are Justin Williams, Karl Lewis, Karl had an injury from last week, but is fit.

On paper this should be a Lido victory, Ely have lost their last 8 league game on the trot, and have dropped to last place in the division 1, though one win could see them rise 4 places to 15, as only 3 points separates the bottom 5 clubs and they have the best goals against of the 5 teams.

You have to go back to the 11th of November for Ely's last win in the league which came away to Croesyceiliog 2-1.

Our only meeting with them this season came at home in the league back on Dec 16th and we won 2-1 with goals from Craig Jones and Liam McCreesh, but we also played the last half hour with 10 men as Shaun O'Leary was sent off.

This game will be a good distraction for Rangers from their poor league form and position, but we should be too strong for the Cardiff side.
