Lido win
2nd game on the trot |
|
Today we won
our 2nd league game of the season, when we beat pointless
UWIC 2-1 at the Marston's Stadium.
We went
into the break 1-0 up thanks to John Felton's first
league goal of the season.
We doubled
our lead in the 2nd half when Ian Jones grabbed his 2nd of
the season to make it 2-0.
The
students got a consolation goal to finish 2-1, the 3
points see's us move up the table to 9th place.
Our next
opponents in the league are Grange Quins, who are having a
unhappy return to welsh league life. Eston Chiverton's
charges have conceded 16 goals in their 4 games and have
just a point.

Lido off
the mark with a win in Aberaman |
|
Afan Lido
kick started it's welsh league season tonight, when we
comfortably beat ENTO Aberaman.
The first half
we gave away too many free kicks, but they were defended well, Aberaman nearly
scored first blood when they hit the post in the first 5 mins.
We still
weren't creating many clear cut chances, but that all changed in the 2nd half
half as we raised the pace and Aber were beginning to get stretched.
Ian Jones hit
the bar with one effort before Chris Piper scored the opener, Liam McCreesh
laid on the ball to to Ian Jones for the 2nd.
Our score line
could have been higher but for good saves by the Aber keeper especially from
Karl and Ian.

New
table and match results for Div 1 |

I have developed
a new league table using a Java applet, it also brings you
every game played in division 1 of the welsh league, plus
other stats. It's a very useful program that gives the
visitor a wealth of information on each clubs games recent
results streaks and much more.
Most
people are already Java enabled but if you cannot see the
program working then you will have to download the Java
software to your PC.
It is
only 7MB in size and takes around 70 seconds with a
broadband connection, visit the link below for the
Java.com website.

Lido lose
league opener to Neath |
|
Having just
got back from Spain, but knowing the result late on Friday
night, I received a release of the management teams views
of the league opener, below is their comments.
DESPITE
recording an opening day loss to last season's high-flyers
Neath, Afan Lido joint managers Phil Holmes and Paul Evans
remain upbeat about their side's promotion chances
over the course of this campaign.
An early headed goal from prolific striker Carl Shaw, from
a quickly taken free-kick which eluded the Lido defence,
was all that separated the two sides at the final whistle.
Lido
also had to contend with the last minute dismissal of
defender Justin Williams for a second bookable offence.
The result, however, has not left the management too
disheartened.
Paul Evans remarked: "We'll be there or thereabouts
come the end of the season.
"I was disappointed with the result, as I didn't
think there was really a goal in the game, but it gives us
an indication of what we have to work on now. Gareth
Scantlebury didn't
have a save to make.
"We can undoubtedly improve over the next few
matches. We had a great pre-season so obviously we'll look
to build upon that."
Next week Lido face another tough test at home to
Pontardawe, who have appointed former Reds favourite Dai
Rees as manager.
Phil Holmes said that it is a test they will be relishing.
He commented: "We're looking forward to next week
now. I felt that, against Neath, we didn't always stick to
our game plan, but when we did, it was working and we were
getting
behind our opponents.
"Our distribution was quite poor, and the sending off
is disappointing because we've lost Justin for three
games, but there were also some positives.
"John Felton made a real difference when he came on,
and we were very quick going forward. That's something
we'll be looking to take into the match next Saturday."

Team
news ahead of the Neath game |
|
With just 20
hours to the kick off for the new season for our first
team, we have several players doubtful for the game.
Steve
Parry, Liam McCreesh, Ian Jones and Carl Edwards are all
doubtful, but we have a 20 strong squad still available.
In the corresponding
fixture last season we played out a 1-1 draw at the
Marston's with Liam McCreesh scoring for the Lido.
