Congratulations to the under 12's team and management for the victory over Baglan in the under 12's Knockout cup final.

Our scorers on the day were Jake Price (1) and Jack Underwood (3).

Young was Jack was also voted man of the match.

Lido win on the road

We won our 8th away game of the league this evening, with a 1-0 victory over Maesteg, the only goal of the game came on 42 minutes from a superbly timed cross from Craig Jones and Karl Lewis gratefully put it away.

We almost went 2-0 up 2 minutes later, this time a Shaun O'Leary cross was met by Ianto and his effort hit the bar. But that's how it finished and we are now on 60 points and closing in on 4th place side Ton Pentre.

Lido team: B Thomas - C Jones - K Lewis - D Williams - C Edwards - C Martin - C Latham - P Evans - I Jones - S O'Leary - J Felton.

Subs: C Piper - G Hurley - M Lavis.

Youth's draw in derby game

The youths were in welsh league action last night, when near rivals Goytre were the visitors to the Marston.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw which consolidates our 3rd place in the table, but Briton Ferry and Neath are capable of catching us if they win their games in hand, we travel to Ferry in our last game of the season.

More on this game later today.

Maesteg team news

Not too many changes to the team for the Maesteg game, hard to call this one as Maesteg on their day are capable of beating any team in the league, but are also capable of losing to any team, hopefully it's the latter that will be on show tonight.

In: comes Craig Jones.

Out: Justin Williams (ankle) Steve Parry (work) and Liam (back) Phil Holmes (work)

Lido U14's secure league & cup double

Our under 14 side completed a fine league and cup double last night, when the played Port Talbot in the cup final and our lads ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, goals from Daniel Symmons (2) Daniel Carey and Thomas King ensured a double having wrapped up the league title last week. Well done to all the players and staff.

Lido win in mid-week at last

Our first mid-week win in ages saw off visitors Taffs Well, in what was described as a poor end of season contest with nothing to play for, for either team.

The games only goal came after 85 minutes and scored by a young head on an old pair of legs, gaffer Phil.

It wasn't such a good night for the reserves who lost to 6-0 on their travels when they played Neath.

More tomorrow from both games and table updates.

Village go 3 points clear in Reserve's table

Garden Village won the battle of the top 3 last night when they beat Goytre at Glenhafod Park by a 2-1 score line, this now gives Village a 3 point cushion over our reserves and a 4 point gap to Goytre in third place. But Goytre do have games in hand over both ourselves and Village.

The wrong result for the Lido Ladies

News has reached me that the result all Lido Ladies players and supporters didn't want to happen has happened. Haverfordwest pulled off a 2-1 win at home over Pontypridd Town on Sunday 2-1, and they came from a goal down to take all 3 points.

This now leaves our Ladies team bottom of the table with Hwest 2 points above us. they have 3 games left and our team have 2, so still all to play for.

Under 12's lose cup final to Porthcawl

The under 12's took part in the first of their two cup finals over the next week, and yesterday they took on the very strong Porthcawl under 12's in the Challenge cup final. But unfortunately Porth came out on top in this final beating our youngsters by 3-0, but they have a chance again next Sunday for silverware when they take part in their 2nd cup final in a week when they face Baglan. The teams meet already back in September when goals from Jake Price (1) and Jack Underwood (2) saw our team win at Baglan 3-1.

Brian wins March's player of the month poll

The winner for player of the month for March was keeper Brian Thomas. He topped the poll with the highest monthly vote to date, pulling in 34 votes, and finished 20 votes ahead of 2nd placed Craig Martin. The club will now present Brian with the keys to a brand new BMW which they said they would donate to any player scoring more than 30 votes in a single month. He doesn't get the car just the keys.

Liam's sore but on the mend

Liam walked stiffly into the Lido Clubhouse at 7pm on Saturday night, having been to Morriston Hospital for X-Rays, etc.
He has suffered a back injury (badly bruised), with advise to rest for a few days and gradually ease his way back to fitness.

Many thanks to Ton Pentre for asking about Liam and I would like to thank Marty Ellacott for his advice and assistance with Liam's injury (as well as both physio's).

Lido teams weekend results

The Reserves hopes of winning the league took a knock today, they were away at the Welfare ground where they took on bottom side Seven Sisters, and the home side made a mockery of their lowly position by beating us 3-1, Dan Williams got the Lido goal. Garden Village reclaim top spot following their 1-1 draw against Pontardawe.

UNDER 12's
The under 12's had no game today, maybe that had something to do with the fact they are playing in the Challenge cup final tomorrow when they take on Porthcawl at Ynys with a 11:00 am kick off, your support of the young lads would be very welcome. Porthcawl must start as hot favourites as they top the u12's table with 14 wins from 14 games, and have done the double over our side already this season, but a cup final is a different kettle of fish and the lads are up for it. Under 12's results and scorers are now up to date.

UNDER 10's
Both our under 10 teams were in action yesterday for the first time in ages, and both teams enjoyed a winning day. The Colts were 1-0 winners away to Cwmavon, and the Rangers won 8-1 away to Glyncorrwg. Also the 10's results are now up to date,

Draw number 9 today against The Bulldogs

We drew our 9th game of the season today, against the battling Bulldogs.

There was no goal for the first 80 minutes of the game, then 2 in 6 minutes, we took the lead on 80 mins from the penalty spot converted by Ianto, but our lead only lasted 6 minutes as the Bulldogs scored to tie up the game.

Liam McCreesh was taken to hospital after injuring his back, more on this as it comes through.

Whose the top of the top 5?

The top 5 in div 1 will finish as they are, but who is performing better against their top 5 teams than the others, who can boast they deserve to where they are because they have out done their nearest rivals, here's a look at the the table of the top 5 with the games against each other so far this season.

The table accurately reflects the full table positions with Neath rightly being top dogs.

Ton Pentre team news

Teams news ahead of tomorrow's home game with Ton Pentre is.

Out: S Best - C Thomas - D Williams and Craig Jones (both have ankle injuries)

IN: S O'Leary - Karl Lewis - Steve Parry - Liam McCreesh and John Felton.

Nothing at stake in this clash other than pride, as now both teams cannot become league champions, if either team were to gain maximum points in all their remaining games they would still fall short of Neath's current total of 78 points. But we could still finish above Ton and claim 4th spot in the league, 4th is the highest either of us can realistically hope to finish up at the end of the season, a big improvement for both teams on last season's positions.

Ladies table and results up to date

At long last the Fair game magazine has updated the results for our Lido Ladies league, and I can update the league table.

Our Ladies are down to play Bridgend Town this Sunday, but I already have us playing them twice in the league this season, so I will have to wait and see who their opponents are. They have just 2 league games remaining and relegation is staring the Ladies team in the face, they need 2 wins from the last 2 games to have a chance of avoiding the drop. And those teams are 3rd placed UWIC and 4th placed Ferndale Fillies, 2 really tough teams.

Ely come back for a draw

Another mid week game without a win, though this one looked destined for 3 points, 1-0 up on 20 mins with Ianto putting us in front, Carl Edwards doubled the lead to give us a 2-0 half time lead.

The game turned with the sending off of Carl Evans his 3rd red of the season. And Ely made the most of playing against 10 man Lido and clawed back to gain a point with the final score 2-2.

Match report to follow tomorrow night (after work)

Team news for the Ely Rangers game

Another mid week game another game we lose players to work commitments and injuries.

Out for today's trip to Station Road Wenvoe are: Shaun O'Leary - Steve Parry - Karl Lewis - John Felton - Dan Williams and Liam McCreesh.

In: Shaun Best - Corey Thomas - Phil Gaffer - Carl Evans - Matt Lavis - Chris Latham and Carl Edwards.

A tough game in prospect with Ely battling to stay in div 1, they currently lie last but one in the table and 8 points from safety, but they gave us a hard game at the Marston earlier in the season before we won 2-1 (though we did play the last half hour with 10 men, won't mention who got sent off Shaun ok)

No match updates today, working till 8pm.

Lido 3rds season comes to an end

The 3rds season is over following their 1-0 defeat against Glyncorrwg on Saturday, they also had a game on Thursday away against Gwynfi Utd which was a 6 pointer and Gwynfi came out 4-1 winners, Gwynfi extended their unbeaten run to 9 games with victory over our 3rds, and had they not had to forfeit 2 games and a 6 point deduction they would surely have been pushing for promotion. Our scorer in the Gwynfi game was Liam O'Brien.

Newport YMCA match updates

Today's match updates.

Team line up.

B Thomas - K Lewis - Steve Parry - C Jones - C Piper - C Martin - L McCreesh - P Evans - I Jones
S O'Leary - John Felton.

Subs: C Latham - J Williams - G Hurley.

The game started off well with the Lido 1 up after 5 mins, a brilliant strike from Chris Piper 1-0 Lido:)

But as so often this season we shoot ourselves in the foot and let the opposition straight back in when YM equalised just 4 mins later, 1-1.

We had to wait until the 30 min to re-take the lead. From a Shaun O'Leary corner Liam McCreesh headed in to make the score 2-1 Lido, that was all the scoring action of the first 45 mins.

20 mins into the 2nd half and the Lido are on top, though YM look dangerous on the counter. Craig Jones had to leave the fileld with an injury, Greg Hurley replaces him.

On 65 mins Chris Latham comes on for goal scorer Chris Piper.

Lido look to have sealed the points when Steve Parry made a solo run and scored to make it 3-1 in the 90 min.

Full time Lido 3-1 Newport YM.

Today attendance: 120.

Squad decimated for tonight's Croesy game

Tonight's game away to Croesyceiliog is going to be tougher than it would normally be, with the early time the squad are leaving for Cwmbran, many players are unable to make the 4pm leaving time plus injuries and suspensions, in total 8 players from the squad are missing.

Out: Brian Thomas - Shaun O'Leary - Karl Lewis - John Felton - Steve Parry (all work related) Dan Williams (injured) Carl Evans (Suspended) Liam McCreesh is being rested.

In: Shaun Best (scored 18 goals for youths and Reserves) Corey Thomas - Rory McCreesh (all 3 youth players) Justin Williams - Carl Edwards.

So it's going to be a tougher game for the Lido that it was already going to be, with 8 first team players out.

Pontypridd take a point

Thinks got off to a good start with a goal after 17 minutes from Craig Jones, things got better 2 minutes later when Paul Evo doubled the lead.

Ponty pulled a goal back after 27 minutes, they got back level at 2-2 on 42 minutes. Thing went full circle on 80 minutes when Ponty took the lead, and it looked like we were dead and buried, but sub Chris Latham got us level on 88 minutes, and the game finished all square, not the result either team were hoping for as all the other top teams all won to pull further away in the title race.

Team news ahead of Saturday's import promotion game against 2nd placed Pontypridd, a must win game for both sides, if we fail to gain max points from this encounter, we can all but mathematically forget about the welsh premier league for this season and concentrate on the cup double, for Ponty they desperately need 3 points to stay in touch with Neath.

All square in Newport

The weekend is over, and it was back to bread and butter soccer, our vastly changed squad were first to draw blood when Chris Piper scored after 14 minutes, but Newport had the better of the first half exchanges and drew level after 36 mins.

The 2nd half played out scoreless for a full time score of 1-1.

Next up is a home game against high flyers Pontypridd this Saturday and that should be a cracker, and we will be looking forward to trying to gain revenge for the 3-0 score line they inflicted on us a few weeks ago.

Decimated squad ahead of tonight's game

The squad is without many of the regular starters for tonight's game at Mendalgief Road, when we travel to take on Newport YMCA.

Due to the 6:15 kick off, the coach has to leave at 4 pm which has ruled out a lot of the team due to work commitments. Unfortunately YM do not have floodlights meaning the game has to kick off at the earlier.

We play Newport again in 11 days on a Saturday with a afternoon start, a pity these fixtures could not have been reversed so we could field a full strength squad.

Players out: Karl Lewis, Shaun O'Leary, Carl Evans, John Felton, Dan Williams, Justin Williams.

In: Carl Edwards, Chris Piper, Karl Roberts.

Newport will be looking to get something out of this game, to ease any fears of being dragged back into the relegation battle. At the moment they are just 5 points clear of the bottom 3, with 8 games left to play, while we are still dreaming of the treble, so a must win game for both sides, a point will be of no use to us in the hopes of catching the teams above.

Some glimmer of hope may have been thrown to the clubs chasing Neath, an unconfirmed report reached me that Neath have again had problems with their Llandarcy park ground meeting welsh premier league status. This could mean if reports are true, that 2nd place will get promoted in their place, which throws a lifeline for Pontypridd, Goytre and ourselves, all we have to  do is make sure we win our games in hand and overtake the teams above us, not an easy task with so many games coming thick and fast.

Message from Afan Lido's Chief Executive

Aberystwyth March 31st 2007.
History in the making.
Afan Lido into the FAW Welsh Cup Final for 1st time.

Many thanks to all our travelling supporters on Saturday. The atmosphere was terrific. Even with the delayed buses, everyone's attitude was great. It was well worth it in the end.

Our Junior section were fantastic, singing and chanting all thru the game. They even managed to get the 'oldies' to join in with them.
Their helpful advice to every Welshpool player coming to take a penalty, must have made them nervous. It definitely helped us win.
The ecstatic emotional scenes on the pitch at the end of the game was fantastic, not one dry eye.
AFAN LIDO Juniors - you were BRILLIANT.

Thanks to all the messages and phone calls that we have received during and after the game (from our friends at other clubs and leagues) asking for updates and later for congrats. It shows that we are making many friends throughout football. There are too many to name here, but it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to Sean McCreesh and Andy Morgan for their continued support.

Once again, many thanks to all who supported us on Saturday.

But to say once again:
AFAN LIDO Juniors you were
'Simply the BEST'.

Ianto joins the old Gold

The welsh leagues deadliest striker this season Ian Jones has followed Liam's suit and signed 2nd forms for Carmarthen Town, he will undoubtedly be a huge acquisition for the Carmarthen manager.

Ianto's goal scoring feats this season could not have been unnoticed by many welsh premier managers, and now has the chance to try and bolster Town's flagging chances of making a late surge for European soccer, hope he's playing for us in the final :)

Liam McCreesh joins WPL Haverfordwest

Lido midfield maestro has joined welsh premier league side Haverfordwest County.

But it's not as bad as it sounds for Lido fans, he has joined them on 2nd forms and will only be available to them when he is not required by the Lido, as Lido have first option on his midfield skills.

With so many league games left for Lido not to mention 2 cup finals his opportunities might be limited for his new club, which is good news for the Lido. But all the best to Liam in his new dual role.
